I sent my response without thinking about it. I wasn’t in the mood to play second fiddle to a man who was obviously hiding something.

I know you didn’t have an emergency. I don’t have time for liars.

Austin: But you have time to date another man?

Excuse me?

I shifted nervously in my seat.

What I do is none of your business. We aren’t a couple. We only went out on three dates.

Austin: Are you sleeping with him too?

Drake snatched my phone from my hand and growled. “This guy is a piece of work.” He tapped something and hit send. He chuckled and then typed something else before I could snatch the phone back and glance at what he had typed.

Sleeping is not a word I would use when describing what we do.

“Jesus.” I snatched my phone from him and rushed reading the words Drake wrote. “You didn’t need to do that.”

Austin: Seriously? What the fuck, Mackenzie? I didn’t ditch you. I left you because of an emergency and you hop in bed with the next guy who came along. I thought we were starting something good.

I don’t like liars and you lied. What I do with another man is none of your business.

I tossed the phone down and sighed.

“He’s a piece of shit. I know guys like him. They think they can do whatever they want with women because they have some fancy job. You deserve better.”

I gathered the discarded pizza boxes and stormed into the kitchen. Drake followed me in and pinned me against the counter. “Implying what you did in that text, you seem pretty sure of yourself,” I whispered the words as my eyes cut to Danny who had fallen asleep on the floor.

“It’s the truth. If we were in bed, neither of us would be sleeping. Does that scare you?”

I bit my lip and closed my eyes. “No.” Blowing the air out of my lungs, I spoke in a hushed voice, “I should get him to bed.”

“Let me carry him.”

“Okay.”

I watched as he scooped Danny into his arms and followed them up the stairs. My ovaries were screaming as he pulled the blankets up around Danny’s chest and leaned down to press a kiss to his forehead.

“I should go.” Drake’s voice had me looking into his eyes. It was then I noticed he wore contacts.

“You’re wearing contacts?”

“If I want to see, I need to.” Drake chuckled, his deep tone sending a jolt of desire straight to my pussy.

“Do you have to leave?”

“I’m afraid if I stay, I’ll be making good on that text I sent Austin.” He groaned, trying to show some restraint against the growing need I could see written in his pained expression.

Biting my lip, I grabbed his hand in mine and led him out of Danny’s room. I pulled the door closed and walked him into my room. I wanted to be wild and free, and everything about this man made my body burn. Drake said nothing as I shut the door behind him and locked it. I walked past him and tugged my shirt off, dropping it to the floor.

“Fuck.”

“That’s the idea, Drake. I won’t pretend I do this often, but I want you. And I think you want me too. So, are you going to just stand there and stare, or are you going to get undressed?”

Drake

Holy. Fucking. Shit.
