I watched as he climbed into his truck and pulled off. What the hell was happening to me? In a span of two weeks, I went from never dating to having two men. I stepped back into the house, not surprised by Megan’s reaction.

“Holy shit, Kenz. That man is hot.”

“I know. What the hell am I doing?”

“Dating two men. That’s what you’re doing. And it’s about time. But damn… Drake is mouthwatering hot.”

“He seems so familiar to me. And I’m not sure he likes the fact I have a kid. Did you notice how he was looking at Danny?”

“You’re being paranoid. He didn’t want to upset your son. That says a lot about his character.”

I powered on the phone and went through the activation process. Once it was done, I transferred my contacts over. I smiled when I found his note on the inside of the box.

My number for you to have. Please put it in the phone and text me. Drake.

I typed it in and immediately sent him a message. You’re officially saved in my phone—thanks again for buying it.

Drake: It was my pleasure. Can’t wait to see you again.

Same.I smiled as I thought about his lips against mine.

“Uh oh. Someone has it bad.”

I glanced up at Megan. “Shut up. I like him. Is that weird? I mean, I just met him.”

“Not at all. You deserve a little excitement in your life. Besides—have you even heard from Austin since he ditched you?”

“Hey. Can you call Sean and ask him?”

Megan already had her phone out and had it pressed to her ear. “Hey, Sean. What?” I could hear him grumbling something to her. “Suck it up. This is important. Was there a major car wreck last night? Because Kenzie’s date ditched her saying he had an emergency at the ER. Doctor Craig. What? Fuck. Okay. Thanks. No Sean. No. Fine. I said fine.”

“What was that all about?” I cocked an eyebrow at her.

“First things first… Sean said no such event happened last night. Furthermore, Doctor Craig wasn’t at work.”

“What the fuck? Why would he lie?”

“Are you sure he isn’t married?”

“I mean, no.” I chewed my finger, pondering her question. “You think he’s married?”

“No. I don’t. But it doesn’t make sense. You need to ask him.”

I sighed as my eyes closed. I didn’t need this drama in my life. It was part of the reason I had dated no one. Danny was my sole concern and bringing this kind of mess into my life affected him too. My phone vibrated in my hand, making me jump.

Drake: I can’t stop thinking about you.

Well, if Austin was not who he said he was, at least I had Drake. Hopefully he didn’t have any skeletons in his closet too. I hated secrets, but I hated liars more.

“What the hell is eating you?” Alex threw a wadded-up piece of paper at my head.

“Nothing,” I lied.

“Dude, we’ve been friends for ten years. I know when you’re bullshitting me. Ever since we came here, your head hasn’t been on this case. What is it?”

“You know what I did or gave up to be a part of this division, right?”
