Chapter 21

Jason watched as Dimitra fiddled with the metal bracelet on her wrists. She had a fierce determination written across her face as she bit into her lip. Her cry of pain had him jumping to his feet and rushing to her side.

“Here, let me look.”

Dimitra held her hands out as Jason ran his fingers over her delicate skin. The chains to freedom had bitten into her flesh, causing blood to drip down her forearm.

“It’s fine. I just needed to get them off… if I had my powers, we’d be out of here by now.”

“Dimitra,” he pressed his palm to her cheek, “I want to be free just as much as you, but hurting yourself will not help.”

Stepping back, she threw her arms up, “I’m sick of this, Jason. Why hasn’t my family found me yet? Where in the hell has he hidden me that is keeping five Queens from locating this place?” she threw her arms out at the space, frustration pouring from her gut.

Jason grabbed her arms and wrapped her into an embrace. Her back was pressed to his chest, her scent enveloping him as he held her firm.

“They’ll find us. I know they will just give it some time.”

“TIME? Are you serious,” she spun to face him, “I’ve been here six months – SIX! How much more time do they need?” She pounded her fists against him.

“Stop,” he wrapped his hands around her hands, “Dimitra… what do you want me to do?”

“Tell them where I am… please.” Her eyes welled, tears gathering at her lash line.

Jason couldn’t hold back any longer. He leaned forward, taking her lips in his. Dimitra stiffened, her hands balling his shirt. Jason threaded his hands into her hair, demanding entry. Finally, Dimitra parted her lips, giving him access to plunder her mouth. His tongue searched for treasure, seeking the heat he knew she held inside. Her tongue tangled with his, her arms seeking shelter around his neck as he deepened the kiss.

She felt his palms slip to her ass, holding her against his muscular frame. Dimitra moaned into his mouth as energy sparked its way through her veins. Finally breaking apart, she stepped out of his hold and turned away from him.

“I’m sorry,” Jason whispered as he ran his fingers through his hair.

Dimitra glanced over her shoulder, “You regret kissing me?”

“Regret? No…” he let a giggle escape his lips, “I’m sorry I can’t free you. I’m sorry I’m too scared to risk my sister to help you.”

Sighing, “I understand. You love her. I wouldn’t risk someone I loved either.”

She walked away from him, putting distance between them. He’d been the only person she’d seen in six months, what she was feeling right now was a product of loneliness. But as she stepped into the shadows, away from his gaze, her heart flickered with something more. Something that freaked her out more than being a captive.

Jason never tore his eyes from the space Dimitra just stood. His heart was pounding like a drum, and his brain was telling him to go after her. Deep down, she was right… he’d do anything for someone he loved. Even if it meant sacrificing himself to save them.

Walking to the tiny desk in the room, he pulled out a piece of paper. It was time he asked for help. Maybe, just maybe, if he could get his sister to safety, he could save Dimitra.
