I fist my hand, my stomach tightening.

I fucking hate that she’s falling apart, but there’s no going back for us.

“Promise me you will always love me, shorty,” I whisper against her lips, and she smiles softly as she runs her fingers through my sweaty hair, our naked chests pressed together, my cock deep inside her, feeling fucking amazing.

“You’re my forever, Jaylen,” she whispers back before kissing me, and I melt into her, molding our bodies together.

I said I never wanted an old lady, I said we’ll just date, but I lied, I fucking need her tied to me always.

“She tried calling you, Jaylen,” Psycho says, using my legal name, bringing me out of the past, and I swallow.

“I know,” I admit, “but she can’t rely on me anymore, Jax.”

“Why?” he asks with frustration, “You love her, she loves you, why not talk all the shit out and just be happy. It isn’t like you fucking cheated on her or vice versa, you just kept the fact you were a brother because of our history within the club and she didn’t mention her mama’s name or the fact she was friends with Ives.”

“Because I called her a whore and a patch chaser,” I admit quietly, “Because too much hurt and pain is between us and because I lied and said I fucked her mother when I haven’t touched one clubwhore. That bitch Lacey doesn’t count, she was just a hang-around at that point.”

“Good fucking riddance to that bitch,” he mutters, and I hum in agreement.

After around four days of being held in our torture chambers, Fury killed her, something he was trying not to do for Tate’s sake. But, not only did the woman never pay attention to her daughter unless Fury was around, she drugged her, kidnapped her, then stabbed Anna, trying to get to his woman.

“Look, this is for the best, brother, believe me, it is. After everything, there’s no coming back from it. Fuck, I made out with another woman, I harassed her dad and honestly, a small part of me still believes she used me, and that feeling, it won’t go away, so I’ll never trust her,” I reluctantly admit as Blade and Cage walk my way and I mutter, “Look, I’ve got to go, just make sure she’s alright and call Randy if need be.”

I hang up before he can say anything else.

Am I upset he isn’t on my side, that he thinks I need to give her and I another chance? Not really, I just know this is for the best.

“Viper,” Cage says, and I give him a head nod and reply, “Good to see you, Cage.”

“Was that Psycho on the phone?” Blade asks, and I nod and confirm, “She lost the kid.”

He winces and mutters, “Fuck,” while Cage questions, “What kid?”

I sigh as Blade explains, “His uh, well, our mechanic's daughter is an EMT and was called out to a kid.”

Cage frowns, his dark brown eyes staring at me, and I reluctantly state, “A five-year-old little girl, hit by a hit and run, and unfortunately died despite Lake trying her hardest to save her while the mother pleaded behind her not to let her daughter die.”

My chest tightens again as Cage curses and I chew my bottom lip, remembering the time he went nomad.

I need space, I need to leave.

My anger is consuming me, and I’m getting jaded. Every time I see Lake, I know what we could have had, I see what I lost because of our lies and nasty words, and I end up taking that anger out on her, causing a bigger rift.

“Hey Cage, you went nomad for a while right?” I ask, and Blade looks at me sharply, already seeing where I’m heading.

Cage raises a dark brow at me and states, “Yeah, for a year before taking over. I spent too much time fucking around and going inside one too many times, so nomad was the best option for me at the time. Why?”

I swallow hard before admitting, “I’m thinking that may be what I need at the moment.”

He nods in understanding, while my President, my best friend, scowls hard, but I ignore him.

He may not like it, but it’s what's best before I explode, and no one wants to see that. They don’t call me Viper because I kiss fucking puppies. I’m ruthless and when mad, I don’t think about anything but what pissed me off and ruin everything in my path until I get my revenge.

Cage clears his throat and says, “It fixed me up, helped with my emotions, heck, I even met my old lady on the road, so if that is what you need, my doors are always open for a night when you’re on the road.”

I nod in thanks while Blade vibrates next to me, but really, he should have seen this coming. He knows what it's like to live without his love, and he also knows I won’t be getting mine back.

I pull up outside the clubhouse nearly five hours later, coming back as per protocol, but don’t climb off my bike. I don't need the lecture I know I’m going to get from Blade.
