“I don’t have to take any vows, do I?”
Her eyes widen as her back hits the wall. “Maybe a few.”
I plant my hands on either side of her, caging her in. “Like what?”
“You might have to vow to hold my hands.”
I press off the wall, reaching down and taking her hands in mine. Then I draw them up, over her head, and hold them against the wall.
Her chest rises and falls at a quickened pace. Her big blue eyes are wide.
“What else?” I ask.
She lifts her chin. “You might have to kiss me.”
Every muscle in my body pulls taut as I lower my lips to hers. Blood races through my body so fast that I can hear it rush over my ears.
She sags as I cover her mouth with mine—gently, at first. I pull back when she tries to deepen it, making her slow down.
Her lips are soft and warm, her mouth hot and wet. I slide my tongue past her lips and roll mine around hers. She moans in my mouth and arches her back, her body craving contact like mine.
But if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it my way. And I have no desire to hurry.
I release her hands as I break the kiss, resting my forehead against hers. We struggle together to catch our breath and put the frazzled pieces of our brains back together.
“That’ll work,” she says, chuckling.
I stand and step back. My body buzzes with need and energy—nearly bursting with anticipation of what’s to come.Hopefully.
She smiles brightly, eager to continue. But again, I have to slow her down.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” I ask her.
“Hell yes, I am.”
“What if one of us falls for the other?” I ask. “Then what?”
I stand before her, ready to peel her out of that dress. Somehow, I find a shred of self-restraint and hold on to it for dear life.
She smirks. “I’m not going to fall for you, Banks.”
I smile back at her. “I was talking about me.”
She sucks in a breath, her shoulder blades digging into the wall.
“I’m not going to apologize for wanting you when this is over,” I say.
“You don’t know you’ll still want me.”
“Oh, baby, I do.”
Her cheeks turn a pretty shade of pink. “You see, that’s the beauty of an orgasm, Banks. It drains all of that desire right out of you, and you can go on with your life.”
“But, you see,Sara—it’s not that easy for me. Not with you.”
“I … I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
I grin. “You know what? I don’t, either. I can’t believe these words are coming out of my mouth. Trust me, it takes a lot to surprise me when it comes to words I say because I say a lot of stupid shit without thinking about it.”
