“And how do I look at you, Milo?” he asked again. He was curious for his own reasons too. He wanted to know how Milo saw him. He wanted Milo to explain to him what the expression on his face was when he looked at him. What did Milo see there? Had everyone been able to see through him? The thought bothered him, but not enough to dwell on it.
Milo stared up at him, breathless, the hint of a smile tugging at his lips. Lips that Colby suddenly couldn’t take his eyes off. All the reasons he’d conjured up to convince himself to stay away from Milo were meaningless. They were dandelion seeds and Colby exhaled, scattering them as he held Milo’s gaze.
“Like that.” Milo’s fingers dug into the back of Colby’s neck, pulling him down, inching their mouths closer. “Like you want me.”
He’d never know who closed that last bit of distance. It might have been Milo, being brave and wanting who he wanted despite having a past that hurt him. Or it might have been Colby himself, sick and tired of wondering what it would be like.
But that first touch of his lips against Milo’s was like lightning striking through him. Electrifying him. Changing him.Or maybe not changing him, but blowing the bars off his cage and setting him free.
Colby whimpered and Milo tugged him down with both hands, deepening the kiss, sliding his tongue across the seam of Colby’s mouth, demanding access that Colby was all too happy to give.
They’d stopped pretending to dance and were now officially making out on the dance floor. Colby didn’t care. He wasn’t about to freak out because he was kissing a guy. The hint of stubble scraping across his skin was the hottest thing he’d ever felt. He chased Milo’s mouth even as he pulled away, putting distance between them.
“We should take this somewhere else,” Colby said.
Milo’s gaze flicked up to Colby’s and that flash of vulnerability was back.
“Unless you’d rather not,” Colby added
He reached for Milo, cupping his face in his hand, and he swiped his thumb over Milo’s lower lip. After a slight nod from Milo, Colby asked, “Your place or mine?”
“Yours? Your brother still has your car.”
Colby laced his fingers with Milo’s. “Let’s get out of here.”
CHAPTER 12
MILO
Taylor hadn’t beenthat helpful when Milo prodded him about Colby’s sexuality. He’d scoffed, shrugged, said Colby was Colby, and rolled his eyes. Then he leaned over and told Milo that Colby was acting like “obsessed Colby.” Stealing glances at Milo when he thought no one was looking. Coming downstairs to see Taylor, and then he’d barely looked at him.
Dude, all he can see is you. Trust me. If he’s not into you, he is. He just doesn’t know it.
Taylor’s words ran through Milo’s head as they weaved through the crowd. With Colby at his back, he barely resisted turning around to look at him. They spilled out into the fresh air and Milo filled his lungs.
Colby fell into step next to him and they made their way to his car in companionable silence.
“It was my idea,” Milo blurted as he dug in his pocket for his keys, doing his best to keep his fingers from trembling. “But I don’t even know if you’re straight.” Milo glanced over at Colby, then looked away. God, he felt like an idiot. Where was a sinkhole when you needed the earth to swallow you?
“Well, I kissed you, didn’t I?” Colby moved closer. A hand smoothed down Milo’s back and he closed his eyes.
“Sometimes straight guys kiss non-straight guys.”
“I’ll admit that this is the first I’m admitting this, but I’m attracted to you. I’ve been attracted to guys before, but I’ve always found a reason to look away. I can’t look away from you.”
Milo braved it and turned his head. Colby appeared casual, comfortable. He didn’t look like a straight guy having a crisis. He looked calm. Like he was okay with whatever was going on in his head. Milo let his eyes rake down Colby’s body and between his legs. Jesus. Milo averted his gaze, flicking it to Colby’s face in time to catch a smirk.
Milo managed to unlock his car doors and climb into the driver’s seat before he said something to make an ass of himself. The horrible truth was that Milo had no idea what he was doing. What was he looking for? Should he even be entertaining the idea of starting something with Colby when he didn’t know if he wanted it to go anywhere?
The passenger door shut and jerked Milo out of his thoughts, but not enough apparently, because Colby took one look at him and offered a gentle smile.
“This doesn’t have to be more than a ride home. We don’t have to continue what we started if you’re not into it. No hard feelings.”
“That’s not it. I don’t want to lead you on. I don’t know what I want right now. Obviously I want you, but I don’t know if I’m ready for anything more.”
“That’s fine, Milo. I’m not looking for a marriage proposal. I liked kissing you. I liked it a lot, but we don’t have to do anything.”
“I think my dick disagrees.”
