She folded into me, pressing her cheek against my chest as my hands stroked down her hair, soothing her. “They gave me an iron transfusion.”
“Are you going to be okay?”
She nodded again, holding me a little tighter. “I only have to come back if my symptoms are the same, but they do want to do blood tests more often than I was getting them to prevent it from getting this bad again.”
I looked down at the top of her head, and she met my eyes, feeling my gaze on her. “You were getting them before?”
She chewed the inside of her cheek, then stopped. “Yeah. In Boise.”
“You tell me when the appointments are, and I’ll take you every time.”
Her bottom lip trembled as she nodded in agreement. “Thank you.”
“Anything you for, Huckleberry.” I held her tighter, loving the feel of her in my arms. “Anything.”

Lettie rolled over in my bed, nuzzling her head into my chest. The sunlight streamed in from the window, casting a spotlight on her bare back as I drew shapes across her skin. If I didn’t have raging morning wood right now, I’d think I was still dreaming.
Though it’d been over a week since we’d been at the hospital, the emotions of being unable to get to her still tore through my chest every time I thought of her. It was a stupid thing to be upset over when she was the one going through the medical issues, but I couldn’t keep the thoughts at bay. Now that I had Lettie, any thought of losing her again threatened to tear my heart right out of my chest.
I pressed my lips to her hair, inhaling her sweet scent. “Good morning, Huckleberry.”
“Mmm,” she groaned.
“I have something to show you,” I muttered against her hair.
“If it’s not a pancake breakfast, I’ll be disappointed.”
I chuckled as she sat up, her hair disheveled due to last night's activities. “I’ll make you pancakes after. Get dressed, beautiful.”
I slipped out of bed, pulling on my boxers, jeans, a Carhartt t-shirt, and my boots. Rouge jumped off the bed, beelining for the front door to be let out. Lettie got to work dressing herself in the clothes she’d been keeping at my house as I took care of Rouge’s morning routine.
She’d been staying over at my place a majority of the time over the last week and I was loving every minute of it. If all went to plan, we’d have a place to call our own soon.
Dressed and her hair combed, my fingers locked with hers as we headed out of the house and to my truck. I opened her door and helped her in before closing the passenger door and coming around to the driver's side.
I started the truck and headed down the drive. Once on the main road, I passed by her parents' property and continued down the road for another couple minutes before turning down a different driveway. It was a long dirt road that stopped in the middle of a field with no buildings in sight.
Billy had only used the property to farm alfalfa and never built a house on it. He lived closer to town due to his old age, but it was the perfect piece of land to build our future.
With over eighty acres, my plan was to split the property in half and use the spare forty acres to grow hay, giving my parentsall of the profits from that portion of the ranch. It would be more than enough to cover the bills they needed to pay, as well as leave some left over.
I killed the engine and got out, coming around to Lettie’s side to open her door.
“Is this Billy’s land?” she asked as she hopped out of the truck.
“Not anymore,” I said.
I closed her door and turned to find her gaping at me. “What do you mean?”
I couldn’t help the smile that pulled at my lips. “I bought it. Sale was finalized as of midnight last night.”
Her eyes stayed trained on me as she processed what I was saying. Then as if a light clicked on, she threw herself at me, wrapping her legs around my waist. My hands came to her ass as her arms curled around my neck. “Bailey, that’s amazing!”
She lowered her head to press her lips to mine before pulling back with the biggest grin on her face. “What are you going to do with the land?”
