“And I’d like to speak to someone about getting some boots and a hat,” said Rachel. “I’m afraid that I’ve absolutely no idea what I’m doing with that.”

“Liam,” she called over to a man in the clothing section of the store.

“Yes, Becky?”

“This lady would like to look at a hat and boots. I’ll take these items over to the counter while you have a look,” she said to Rachel.

“Thank you,” Rachel said, passing over the collar and leash they’d picked out before heading back toward the clothing section.

Liam was very helpful and found a hat and boots that fit Rachel like a glove and made her feel a bit more confident about being able to step up into this role for Penelope.

And when she tipped the hat at Penelope and the other woman dissolved into giggles, Rachel realized that she might actually be doing far better at this than she knew.

CHAPTER 13

Penelope

When they left the gift shop, Penelope was on a high.

They’d picked out a collar with a cowbell, a leash and aplug. Everything looked like it would take her beyond what she’d ever dreamed, and Penelope simply couldn’t wait.

Rachel had changed into her new cowboy boots and was actually strutting. It was as if the boots had some kind of magical powers that imbued the wearer with some sass. Not that Rachel didn’t have sass, but not usually when walking down a corridor.

“You are really feeling yourself today, aren’t you?”

Penelope giggled as Rachel tipped her hat in her direction once more. “Well now, little Miss Hucow, I sure do think that—” Someone passed them and Rachel shut up instantly, adding in an inconspicuous whisper, “I just realized that doing a southern drawl might be considered rude.”

She was too adorable, and she seemed to know exactly where they were headed next, making their way back to the elevator that had taken them to and from their suite. But this time when they got in, Rachel pressed the button to go down, and grinned wickedly at Penny.

Penny got tingles.

When the elevator door dinged open, she saw a podium with a stool, and on it a large, tattooed guard reading what looked to be a romance novel.

“Morning, ladies,” he said, barely looking up.

“I’ve booked a playroom,” said Rachel, and Penelope stared at her. When on earth had she managed to organize that?

“I’ve been informed,” he said with a grin. “Surprised you didn’t want to use the actual barn, but I guess the Dungeon’s significantly more comfortable.”

Penny felt her eyes getting bigger and bigger as she looked between the security guard and Rachel. “Miss—Miss Rachel?”

The guard looked up and clocked her surprise then, and flushed red. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was a surprise.”

“It’s okay,” Rachel reassured him. “I’d have given her a clue before we entered the playroom anyway. I’m assuming because it’s so early, there aren’t many people around.”

“You assume right.”

“Excellent,” said Rachel, with another flash of her wicked grin.

Penelope wasn’t used to seeing that grin, and she wasn’t sure that she wanted to get used to it.

“Come along, Strawberry Moo. I’ve got something special planned for you.”

Whatever trepidation she felt momentarily dissipated when the guard opened the doors and they stepped into the Dungeon.

She’d seen photos in the online brochure, of course, but none of them quite captured the way that the purple and amber lighting made the mica in the stone floor glimmer purple. It was beautiful, and it felt beyond luxurious.

Their club back home was nice, but it wasn’t this big, and it certainly didn’t have fancy floors like this.
