He’s been having them a lot now that Rosa is back. I feel the tension.

“As you can see, asshole, I’m busy. What the hell crawled up your ass?” Liam growls.

I love how they bicker like brothers.

“Nothing,” Santiago says. “So, are we done?”

“Yeah.” Liam eyes Santiago.

“All right, then, I gotta go.”

Mark blows out a hot breath. “Fuck, he’s been pissy lately. I think it’s because the banks are trying to take his shop away.”

“Fuck,” Liam says.

“Yeah, I know. Well, later, bro. Happy New Year, if I don’t see you guys.”

We say our goodbyes, and then my undie model walks in, and Liam snorts.

I mouth. “What is it?”

He whispers, “An underwear model with no damn muscle.”

I stifle my laugh.

It’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m unsure where Liam plans to take me. He says it’s a surprise. I’m wearing a maroon sleeveless dress with a lace insert on the neckline. It has a side slit that reveals my matching red panties. I slip into the matching heels and walk to the mirror at the end of the hallway. The heels makes my hips sway. I apply ruby-red lipstick.

“I’m ready,” I shout, walking into the living room where he sits reading a magazine. He looks up at me with those gorgeous eyes.

“Fuck, Grenade, you’re really going to cause an explosion looking like that, baby.” He bites his lip and continues roaming my body. “Fucking sexy.”

My cheeks warm. “Thank you,” I whisper. Even with all my snarkiness, he still manages to make me feel shy—and that was an unknown feeling for me once upon a time.

“Ready, mi bella?”

“I’m ready.” He helps me slip on my coat, and I turn to kiss his cheek. “You look handsome.”

He smirks. “Don’t I always?”

“Smug bastard,” I mumble.

A half-hour later, Liam pulls into the Hard Rock Hotel, where they have their yearly New Year’s parties. It’s also, where it all started the night he asked me for a deal I couldn’t refuse.

“Where it all started, huh?” he says, reading my mind.

“I know. How time flies. So, much has happened in a year.”

He nods, unbuckling me. “It has. One of the best years of my life. Because I fell in love with you.”

I’m in awe.

Once we take the elevator to the restaurant on the top floor, our server sits us in a private corner booth. It’s decorated with a silk tablecloth and a lantern, and rose petals dust the top of the table. It’s very romantic.

“We offer samples of wine, if you are interested,” the server says, placing our menus in front of us.

“Give us a bottle of whatever top-of-the-line wine you have,” Liam drawls, and my eyes bulge out.
