“You didn’t seem to mind when you moaned for me.” I step out of the car and walk around to open her door before she can respond.

Her eyebrows furrow, and she shakes her head. “Poor Chad. He was a nice guy. I felt bad sending him off.”

I growl, gritting my teeth. “Fuck Chad and his pretty-boy doll face.”

She stops and spins on her heels at the entrance to the cafe, laughing. Her beautiful golden locks glow under the light, making her shine. “God, you’re such a caveman. No wonder you and Dominic make such great friends. He barged in on Mila as well and sucked on her neck like a bloody leech.”

I shrug apathetically. “Now that’s what you call a real man, baby.” Fuck, is she right. I laughed my ass off when Dominic cornered Mila. “And what kind of name is Chad? Like chad-der cheese.”

She giggles, and my smile widens at the beautiful sight of her.

CHAPTER 8

SOPHIE

My entire body tingles. I’ve crossed and uncrossed my legs what feels like a million times. Liam’s actions in the restroom left me speechless, needy, and wanting more. Kissed…oh, I’ve been kissed numerous times, but it never felt like that. It was an in-and-out-of-body experience. The way his lips rolled onto mine felt magical, and when his tongue tangled with mine, it was ecstasy. And his firm, thick fingers brushed me in the most penetrating way. He left me hungrily unfulfilled and wanting more. So now here I am, having coffee next to Liam while my lady parts are aching. And the smug bastard knows it.

“I grabbed a sample of different desserts for you to try—we have lemon drop cake, coffee cake, red velvet cake, and dark chocolate cake.”

My eyes grow wide.

He digs his fork into the red velvet. “Try this one. It’s good,” he mumbles as he chews.

“This is a lot of sweets.” I wave my hands over the delicious cakes.

My mind wanders to Eric. He would always comment on what I ate, telling me I should watch my weight. My weight was always a problem for him. Either I was underweight, or I was eating too much. I could never find a balance he approved of.

“It’s New Year’s, Sophie. Enjoy. I’ll work it off at the gym, anyway.” He shrugs and digs his fork into the coffee cake.

Men. No wonder he’s built like a machine. He must work out a lot. He’s bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger inThe Terminator.I guess I can run it off tomorrow morning. I dig my fork into the red velvet. Oh, my heavens, it’s good. I wash it down with a pumpkin spice latte then lick the frosting from my lips and glance at Liam.

“Do you come here a lot?” I ask, breaking the silence.

He chews, then takes a sip of coffee. He looks up at the ceiling as if searching his brain for something to say. Has he never been with a woman without the involvement of his dick before?

Okay, that’s harsh. If he’s never been in a relationship, then he’s never sat and had a conversation with a woman.

His eyebrows furrow and his forehead creases. “Yes, my parents would come here a lot when I was a kid. The owner’s kids have taken over now.”

There is a hint of sadness in his voice, and it makes me want to know more about him. I’ve never asked Mila about Liam’s life, and if I did, she would want to know why I asked. It would make me look interested. I’m still not comprehending why I’m so captivated by Liam. In all ways, too, not just in bed.

“Was that your mom and sister with you tonight?”

A warm smile stretches to his ears, and his eyes shine at the mention of his family. “Yes and no. My mom and my cousin Rosa and her boyfriend. Rosa came down to visit for the holidays.”

Mila mentioned his cousin Rosa before and how she would hang out with them when she was in high school.

“What about your dad?” I ask. “Are you close to him?”

He grips his fork and glances out the window. “No. How about we get a refill, and I’ll drive you home.” He runs his fingers through his hair.

My eyes widen at the edge in his husky voice. My big mouth and my curiosity always get me into trouble. Liam had not mentioned his dad yet, so, I asked. Big fucking mistake. It clearly upset him.

“Sorry.” He still looks out the window. “Didn’t mean to raise my voice. Touchy subject.”

I clear my throat and stand. “I shouldn’t have been prying into your personal life. Sorry about that. We should go.”

He stands and rests his hands on my shoulder. “I wasn’t trying to be a dick.” He huffs a breath.
