I swallow holding the tears in.
“So tomorrow, lunch, I want to know everything about him.” He raises an eyebrow.
“Umm…. I don—”
Dominic cuts me off, “Please, Angel please.” his voice turns faintly pleading. Dominic has never been the type to beg; it’s unlike him.
For Dante,I say to myself.
“Okay, where?”
“Give me your number and I’ll text you the place.”
I nod absently. Butterflies begin to swim in my belly. I hand him my phone and he adds his number to my contacts then sends himself a text with my phone.
“Got It,” he says, as his phone pings. He leans in and kisses the corner of my mouth. “See you tomorrow, baby, and here’s your food.”
I laugh.
He winks and walks off.

MILA
Droplets of perspiration appear on the nape of my neck. I fidget in my seat at Heidi’s Deli, waiting for Dominic. I’m sure people must think my knee-bouncing is a sign of drug use. Dominic sent me a text message late last night, and it disrupted me while I was getting ready for bed.
Dominic:Hey Angel, you awake?
Me:yes.
Dominic:What are you doing?
Me:Getting ready for bed.
The dots come and go.
Dominic:Mmm! Bed, huh, so what are you wearing?
I frown. He’s texting like there hasn’t been five years of distance between us. He used to ask me these same questions years ago to send photos.
Me:Nothing.
Dominic:Whoa, Angel, I’m fantasizing about you naked.
Oh God, this is not what I meant to text him. I slap my forehead.
Me:I meant to text none of your business. Damn, phone.
Dominic:Sure, whatever you say, baby.
He’s so damn arrogant. That hasn’t changed.
Dominic:Meet me at Heidi’s Deli on 12thSt. See you at 12.
The dots come and go. So, I just texted back.
Me:See you tomorrow. Good night.
