He shakes his head but starts to dig, making quick work of my shallow hiding place. Carefully, he bends down and dusts off the nondescript brown box, lifting it out and standing back up.

“Feels pretty light for buried treasure.” He gives it a shake, listening for any rattling.

My heart is threatening to beat out of my chest. If he doesn’t hurry up and open it already I might just blurt it out instead.

As if he can see the anxious thoughts zooming through my head, he puts me out of my misery and rips open the top of the box in a rush. He pauses, my breath catches in my throat, and then he lifts out a small, white baby onesie. The box drops to the ground in a soft thud as he stares at the writing on the front of it.

A huge smile splits my face, the tears streaming down my cheeks. “Get ready for baby number two.”

Next thing I know I’m being twirled in a circle, Fen’s grip tight but gentle, his tears joining mine in a frenzied celebration of another miracle.

“Best decision of my life was choosing you, Francie,” he whispers, his voice cracking on my nickname.

Joy, the kind that steals your breath and makes you feel invincible, spreads through my body. The feeling is now familiar, having become a regular occurrence since I said “I do” a second time to my soul mate.

This is no sham.

This is the most real thing out there: true love.
