“Oh,” she gasped. “The baby kicked!” she shrieked. “Do you want to feel?” She took my hand, placing it on her stomach. Her baby kicked again and I couldn’t hide my excitement.

“That’s adorable,” I jutted out my bottom lip.

“It is, but it sure as hell keeps you up at night,” she laughed letting go of my hand.

“I wouldn’t mind,” I admitted.

“Is that a hint or…”

“No no no,” I quickly said, waving my hands in front of me. “I’m too young and I doubt Antonio would want any little beings running around just yet,” I said, and she nodded.

“I’m sure he’d want a million if it meant you’d give them to him,” she said. “But as for now, this pregnant woman needs a seat, my feet are killing me,” she groaned.

I walked her to a chair before I was introduced to more of Antonio’s family members.

I finally saw him sitting at one of the tables, so I decided to join him. I sat across from him and he took a sip of his drink.

“Now, why would you sit on a chair when my lap is empty?” he asked, slightly lifting his hips.

I smiled, but immediately shook all the dirty thoughts away.

Before I could speak, little Emmanuel ran up to me. He had a piece of cake in one hand and the other was covered in frosting. He tugged on the hem of my dress and I smiled, looking down.

“Yes?” I said, and he raised both his arms in the air. I lifted him onto my lap and we faced Antonio.

“Wanna dance with me, Nirah?” he asked in the most adorable Italian accent with his cheeks covered in frosting.

“Did you just ask my fiancée to dance?” Antonio playfully asked.

“Si,” Emmanuel smiled. “Antonio, you’re no fun just sitting here. I will have fun with her. Right? You want to dance and have fun don’t you?” he asked.

“Yes, of course,” I chuckled and he brightly smiled, hopping off of my lap.

He put his little hand out and I took it, instantly feeling the frosting between my fingers, but I didn’t mind one bit. “Antonio, she’s my fiancée now,” he stuck his tongue out, dragging me to the dance floor.

I turned back to Antonio and playfully mouthed, “Your competition.”

CHAPTER 30

Antonio

I WATCHED EMMANUEL pull her to where others were dancing.

She had to crouch down a little as they walked to hold his hand entirely. They danced, and soon, many of my other little nieces and nephews joined them.

She completely crouched down to their level as they danced happily.

Soon, they all embraced her in a tight, long hug. She had the purest and biggest smile as she talked, played, and danced with them. Her eyes sparkled when they flickered between all the children. I watched her joke and laugh with them. They love her.Ilove her.

“She’s good with kids, huh?” my cousin Elio asked. I smiled, still staring at her, and nodded in response. “I know what you’re doing,” I confessed as I turned to look at him.

“You want children with her don’t you?”

“Of course,” I nodded. “But it’s too soon, no?” I asked, and he stayed silent for a minute. We both lifted our glasses, sipping our drinks, and I sighed. “I’d have a hundred children with her if sheasked. But, I don’t think that’s what she wants right now, and I won’t force her.”

“Will you ask her about it?”

“Only if she starts the conversation,” I answered, looking back at her. “I’ll wait.”
