“Oh?”

“Yeah. You tried to deny me an orgasm and when I threatened to do it myself, you caved and fucked me and gave me my orgasm anyway.”

The smug smile drops, and I giggle. He shakes his head and grabs my hand, weaving his fingers with mine. The move makes my stomach flutter. It’s such an affectionate act... sweet and loving in comparison to the big and scary man offering me this part of his life.

We don’t speak for the rest of the drive, lost in a post-orgasm haze. Elias puts on an indie rock radio station to fill the silence.

Something else I wouldn’t expect the violent mafia boss to enjoy. I guess stereotypes in movies and the mafia books I read had me believing he’d be blasting death metal or something.

We arrive in New York City within the hour, and Elias heads to Brooklyn to his penthouse. Two men are waiting outside the entrance when we pull up.

“I’ll send someone to your apartment to get some of your things tomorrow.”

“I can go.”

“Not a chance. Chase will likely be there waiting for you. I’m sure he’s already found out I’ve captured and killed some of his men. He’s going to be pissed and want to take it out on you.”

I shiver at the thought.

“No working—I need you to take some time off—and no going out in public unless you have my men with you. Understand?”

There’s no use fighting Elias. I hold my hand to my forehead and give him a salute. “Yes, sir.”

He grabs me by the throat and pulls me in for a kiss.

“Brat,” he says against my lips.

Elias nods at someone over my shoulder and turns to get back in the SUV.

“Are you not coming up?”

“I have some leads I need to follow. I won’t be around a lot this week, at least not until I find Chase. He’s never going to lay another hand on you. I promise you that.”

Chapter 16 – Sage

“Do you want to tell me why you have two men following you around?”

I choke on my espresso martini, the brown liquid somehow making its way into my nose, burning as it drips out onto the table. I grab a napkin to clean up the mess I’m making.

Noah sits across from me, arms crossed, not amused.

“Someone’s following me?”

“Cut the bullshit, bestie.”

I roll my eyes. Nothing gets past Noah.

I was wondering when she’d figure everything out.

It’s New Year’s Eve. Nearly a week since Elias showed up at my parents’ house, killed two of Chase’s men, and captured about six others working with him. One week of being bored in the penthouse while Elias is out searching for Chase.

I’ve missed my bossy man.

He’s been coming in late, cuddling up with me in my half-asleep state, then in the morning when I wake up, he’s gone.

“They’re… uh… Elias’s men.”

“I gathered.Whyare Elias’s men bodyguarding you?”
