“One hundred and one.”

Another smile from me.

“One hundred and two.”

“Okay, okay!” I laugh. “Why are you so adorable?”

“Is it because you love me?”

“Maybe.”

He dips me and I giggle.

“Fine! Yes! I love you.”

“Good because I love you and it would have been awkward if you didn’t love me back. Especially since we’re blood mates and immortal and living together. Do vampires get married? Because I vow to never leave you. Sorry not sorry. You’re stuck with me.”

My stomach flutters at his words.

“You’re obsessed.”

“So are you.”

My phone rings.

“Your Majesty,” I say, answering Layla’s call.

“Are you on the way?”

“We’re about to leave.”

“Ugh, can you hurry. I’m freaking out.”

“Why?”

I can hear her pacing.

“Because I’m about to be named Vampire Queen of New York City and it’s something I’ve been dreaming about forever and now it’s happening. Also, I just foundout that the council wants to test supernaturals working together.”

“We already work together.”

“When necessary, yes, but they want more unification. They want a gargoyle to lead my security team.”

“What? Why?”

She sighs. I know she’s twisting her hair into knots as we speak.

Her nervous tick.

And it takes a lot to make a vampire nervous.

“They said once supernaturals interact and cohabitate with no issues—and you know how stubborn and territorial supes are—then the closer we are to revealing ourselves to the world. They want to prevent another Henry incident. Trying to control the human race will only lead to war, so the plan is to gain the trust of humans in powerful positions first, convince them we are not a danger, then reveal ourselves to the world as a united front.”

Interesting. I never imagined a day when the human world and supernaturals would coexist.

“Sounds like a good idea to me.”

She huffs into the phone.
