Standing underneath a streetlight, her pale skin seems to glow. It’s... ethereal. Is she human? An angel?

I don’t know how long I’ve been staring, and I hope she hasn’t noticed the tent in my pants before she turns to keep walking.

“To answer your question, yes, I do know Milli Vanilli. But now I must ask you… do you know Teddy Pendergrass?”

Teddy Pendergrass?

Ok, her knowing Milli Vanilli lets me know she’s into music, but she’s into soul music too? An R&B fan?

“Someone knows their music.”

“I’m old. Um, I mean an old soul. Thirty isn’t old, obviously. I’m just saying, I love music from all generations, and I rarely meet anyone with my taste, so I’m surprised, is all.”

We stop at a busy street corner, waiting for the little green man to appear, allowing us to cross. She stares straight ahead, fidgeting on her feet while she chews on her nails.

“Am I making you nervous?”

She scoffs. “I don’t get nervous.”

“You sure seem flustered.”

“I am not.”

“Turned on, maybe?”

She sighs.

“That wasn’t a no,” I say, raising a brow, but she avoids my questioning stare. “Well, you’re cute when you squirm.”

I’d love to make her squirm in other ways.

“Cute? I don’t think I’ve ever been called cute before.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Cute, no. Sexy? Sure. Scary, most definitely.”

I laugh because there’s nothing I find scary about this woman. She’s... stunning. Intimidating would be the better word to describe her.

There’s something dangerous about her, but maybe that’s because her weapon of choice is a door.

“Well, I love being scared.”

I cringe the moment I say it. It’s not true. I hate the dark and horror movies. I once went to a haunted house and ran out screaming the first time an actor, disguised as a zombie, popped up out of nowhere and began chasing me.

“Yeah? You like scary movies and haunted houses?”

“Absolutely.”

“What about adventure?” she asks as we cross the street.

Ok. This one I can answer truthfully. I love the outdoors. Lakes, camping, whitewater rafting, hiking, and exploring in general.

“Adventure is my middle name. Theodore Adventure Thibodeaux.”

She stops again and holds up a hand. “Wait. WAIT. Your name is Theodore?”

Why did I tell her my full name? I never introduce myself as Theodore. I actually can’t stand the name.
