“Alright baby, you ready to go hunting?” I’m not sure what he means, but my leopard starts to jump for joy at the prospect. Whatever we’re about to do she is extremely happy about it. Right now, I’d rather just continue to rub against him until my scent is saturated into his entire body.

Rooster backs up a little and within the next breath, he’s standing before me in his leopard form. When he rubs against my side butting my head in the process a sense of belonging takes over me. This whole having an animal thing isn’t exactly how I pictured it would be. I always thought once the animal took over, I wouldn’t know what was happening to me or around me, but that’s not the case at all.

It’s like being in a dream where someone else is in charge of what you’re doing. I’m pretty sure I don’t have any control over what my animal does, but it also doesn’t feel like I’m completely out of control either. It’s a strange sensation being on the inside looking out.

Rooster nudges me with his shoulder then starts off toward the house and I follow closely behind him. His tail swishes in front of me and my animal finds it amusing to swat at it with her paw every now and then. Rooster doesn’t seem to notice at first until she gets him with her nail, and he rounds on us giving us a warning growl. My animal instantly ducks her head in apology and Rooster gives our head a lick of affection.

When we get to the house, I can see everyone standing around the front porch, everyone but Brody. A deep ache in my chest causes my animal to let out a low whine, drawing everyone’s attention to me. What if I lost him for good? What if he can’t forgive me for what I asked him to do? Rooster shifts back into his human form, running his hand down my back soothingly.

A part of me’s not happy that the women can see his dangly bits, and once the thought enters my head, I start to feel myself shift again. I curl into myself as my body religions itself for the second time. It’s a little easier this time around, again I won’t call it enjoyable by any means, but it doesn’t hurt.

“Shit, someone get me a blanket! Baby I didn’t mean for you to shift back too. Fuck, don’t’ move until I get you something to cover up with.” I laugh a little, because right now I’m pretty sure everyone can see my lily-white ass on display in my fetal position on the ground.

“Excuse me sir, but you were butt ass naked strutting around the front yard like you didn’t care if your dangly bits were on display.” I hear lots of male laughter as a soft blanket is thrown around my body before Rooster lifts me up and carries me toward the house.

“Dangly bits huh?” He smirks down at me.

“Yes, dangly bits, and those are mine now so no more showing them off all willy nilly either.” I poke him in his chest to emphasize how serious I am, and the man just laughs at me.

“Duly noted my love, no more bits dangling out in the open for all to see after today.” The softness of his lips against my temple makes me sigh in contentment. All is right in my world as far as I’m concerned at this moment.

“Stay with me just a little longer sweetness.” Exhaustion is setting in; it’s getting harder to keep my eyes open they keep dipping shut. I’m only briefly aware of everyone talking in the house as we pass by.

“I’m trying. Where are you taking me?” I mumble out as my eyelids start to droop again, my lashes fluttering against my cheeks.

“Shower, I’m taking you for a hot shower. It will help your muscles, and any soreness left over from shifting for the first time.” He plants another kiss on my temple and I try to burrow deeper into his embrace.

“That’s a good idea, I like that idea a lot. You, me, naked, and in the shower sounds perfect to me.” Laughter filters through my burrow I’ve created in his arms. Embarrassment courses through me at the realization that everyone, including my family, heard what I just said.

“Okay kill me. Can you drown someone in the shower? Is that possible?” The deep rumble of Rooster’s laughter shakes my whole body as we enter the bathroom. I’m so glad my embarrassment entertains him so much.

When he sits me down on the toilet, I give him the best scowl I can muster, which only makes him laugh more. Damn this man, doesn’t he know not to anger his mate. Crossing my arms, I quirk my eyebrow at him.

“Come on baby, don’t be mad. You have to admit it was funny.” As soon as he gives me his panty melting smile I’m done for. Why does he have to be so devastatingly handsome? Do other women find him as irresistible as I do or is this attraction to him part of the whole mate thing?

While he’s busy getting the shower ready, I take a moment to peruse his body. Defined lines, strong muscles without being too bulky, strong shoulders making him capable of manhandling me, just the way I like. Yeah, definitely not just the whole mate thing going on, this man is hot. Suddenly I’m not tired anymore, nope definitely not tired anymore.

“Shower first sweetness, then fun.” He turns around reaching his hand out to me, a smirk playing on his lips.

“Fine, but I get to decide what kind of fun we have after we’re clean.” I give him a little wink before stepping in the shower.

ROOSTER

As much as I wanted to take George in the shower, I could tell she didn’t have the energy for everything I wanted to do to her. Not that we didn’t have fun washing each other, okay teasing each other was more like it. I barely got her tucked into bed before she was out cold.

I still can’t get over how different mating is with her, it’s like going from the absence of color to having the whole rainbow in your grasp. George is my rainbow, my life full of all the color I’ve been missing. It’s overwhelming, but at the same time comforting.

Leaving her to rest, I head downstairs, feeling a little lighter somehow. I know I need to talk to Brody, let him know I don’t hold anything against him. He was close to giving into George’s request, but he was between a rock and a hard place.

“How’s she doing?” Angel asks as soon as I’m down the stairs.

“She’s exhausted, but she’s good. Her shift went better than I thought it would.” Angel looks relieved, as does her family.

“That’s good; we don’t need another murder kitty in our mist.” Clay looks at Angel like she’s sprouted a second head.

“What the hell is a murder kitty?” Before Angel can respond, Stonewall interjects with a giant smile on his face.
