“Bliss, now that I have that job we can be out in two weeks. I think that would be best for everyone.”

“Yeah, but Jess I don’t even have a job yet, I can’t let you foot the bill for everything. Let me at least get a job first.”

“I’m moving out in two weeks either you can join me or stay ‘til you find a job, but as soon as I’m able I’m out. Sorry Holland no offense, but I think I’ve used up enough of your hospitality, thanks.” Jessie was upset, she tried to cover it up, but she was definitely in a hurry to get away from Holland's all of a sudden.

“Alright, alright, I’ll come with you, I’m sure the guys can have us moved in one day.” That seemed to relax Jessie a little, but she looked like she wanted to be moved like yesterday, something was definitely up. As soon as shit was settled with Bliss, I was definitely going to get to the bottom of that shit storm.

“Good, that’s good. Do you think Matt could help, I mean he did such a great job when he packed me up last time, nothing got broken? If he’s not busy, I mean if he’s busy then don’t bother him.” Wow, this girl was a walking contradiction, she didn’t want to be living with non-gay Holland, but she wanted to see Matt again. Yeah, she had some shit going on.

“I’m sure we can get Matt to help out, I think with me, Matt, Holland, and Pops we should have you moved and set up in no time. Bliss are y’all going to need furniture, you know Pops has all that stuff in storage if you want to take a look through it?”

“Hells yes, Jess wait ‘til you see what he has; he keeps everything. I swear he’s a hoarder, except without the trash. There’s a ton of vintage stuff, he had stuff from like the sixties ‘til about five years ago, when he let me redo the whole house. Pops is that alright, can I look through your stuff?” I hadn’t seen Bliss this excited in a long time, it seemed like she’d recovered from the day's earlier events.

Pops looked at her, “You know you can have anything you want, if you want something from the house just let me know so I can replace it later. And that stuff isn’t from the sixties, maybe the seventies, but definitely not the sixties.”

She wasn’t fooling me, I can see that anger behind those eyes; I’ve been on the receiving end enough times over the years, she was up to something. The last time I’d seen that look was when I told her she couldn’t wear a bikini to the clubhouse, she stomped off and changed. Two weeks later I found itching powder in my boxers. Yeah, I was going to need to figure out what she was up, and stop her before she got herself hurt, or worse killed. Jack was one stupid SOB, it was never good to be on Bliss’s evil side, and something told me he’d awakened the beast. I needed to cut her off at the pass, find Jack and end this shit before she got a chance to enact her plan.

Soon they were all getting ready to leave, she was going back to Holland's house, I wanted to ask her to stay, but knew it was too soon still. After today though, we were moving in the right direction, even though opening up sucked ass, it brought us closer, which made it worth it. I’d be there with her for every session, if it meant creating a future for us, and I’d drag Pops with me. I was determined to get my woman back.

BLISS

I saw the want in his eyes for me to stay, but he held back. We’d made serious progress in therapy, but we just weren’t there yet. Not that I didn’t want to stay, I just needed more time, I needed him to open up to me more, and I needed to open up to him more. He wanted those answers I wasn’t ready to give just yet, soon though, very soon. Right now I was more concerned with Jessie’s insistence on moving out in a hurry. She practically freaked out when she found out Holland wasn’t gay, like she could no longer trust him. Something was definitely up with my friend. As soon as I got my own shit squared away, I’d be helping her with her baggage, but first Jack had to pay for everything, slowly.

Once he was punished for his sins, then and only then could I move forward without fear. I just had to make sure no one knew, I had to keep them safe because I couldn’t live with myself if he hurt someone else. The plan was to use his own arrogance against him; Jack thought he’d drive me back to him eventually, and I was going back to him, then at just the right moment I’d make him suffer. I just prayed Bart would forgive me when I was finished.

“Are you sure you’re alright girl?” Jessie asked again as we were on our way back to Holland’s.

“Yeah, I’ll be alright, nothing like a reminder that you have a scumbag for a dad to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I swear if it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. Enough about my shitty day, I’m so excited you got the job.” Jessie has never been good at taking compliments, it’s like her whole body rejects them, she gets very tense like she’s readying herself for something bad to happen.

“Um...thanks I guess, honestly I don’t know what made them hire me, there were a ton of other candidates that were better qualified, and probably had better personalities than I do.”

“What the hell are you smoking woman!?” When Holland yelled from the front seat, Jessie jumped about a foot in the air and started shaking.

“What Holland is so graciously trying to say is, why wouldn’t you get the job. You are an amazing asset to them.” Holding her hand, I give it a squeeze from comfort, she seems to calm down a little. Yep, something was up with my girl, and it was up to me to get to the bottom of it.

“Yeah, what she said. You rock, and if anyone tells you otherwise send them my way, I’ll straighten them out, or knock out their teeth, whichever works best.” That had her laughing, which won Holland brownie points in my book. I knew he could sense the unease that had settled in her since she found out he wasn’t gay, and he was making efforts to help. He really was a great friend, deep down I hoped someday he’d find a great woman; he deserved it. That was another project for when I finished dealing with my own issues.

“Thanks Holland, I’m glad someone has faith in my abilities.” I’m not sure who bashed Jessie's self-esteem so low, but whoever it was I hope they rot in hell.

“Girl, you got mad skills, you aced all your classes, you had the second highest GPA in our graduating class, stop being so hard on yourself.”

“Yeah second highest, that’s just it, I didn’t make valedictorian, that’s why my parents didn’t come to graduation. They said I failed them.” I thought I had some of the most fucked up parents, clearly I wasn’t alone in that category. Jessie’s parents could suck a dick; what fucking assholes.

“Are you fucking kidding me? Jessie, your parents are assholes; you kicked ass. You wait, you’ll show them how freaking amazing you are.” I wanted to shake her, until she got the point of how amazing she was. How any parent could treat a kid like her so badly boggled my mind.

“Yeah, they are, but they are both successful business owners, so they know what it takes to succeed, and I’m not it. They say I’m not cutthroat enough to succeed, according to them I should have somehow sabotaged my competition in order to get the top place.” This girl’s parents might be crazier than mine. I think it was time for an intervention for my girl in the form of some liquor and dancing.

“Hey Holland, what time you get off tonight? I think our girl needs an intervention, what about you?” Laughing in the front seat he knows exactly what I’m thinking, and yet he swears he’s not gay.

“I have to leave as soon as I drop y’all off, then I’ll be back around eleven, should be able to be out the door in thirty after that. Next two days are all mine, so let’s do it. I’ll call Bart and have him bring some of the guys out too.” Not exactly what I was planning, but I was going to make sure Jessie had a blast regardless.

“Sounds good. Jessie, I’m going to make you look like a million bucks, then we’re going to party the night away. Stop shaking your head, we aren’t giving you a choice, you must go or I’ll be stuck alone with all the guys. Come on don’t make me have to listen to all that grunting and ass scratching alone.” Even though she doesn’t look thrilled with the idea of going out with all the guys, she laughs.

“Alright, but promise you won’t leave my side, you know I don’t like busy places.” It wasn’t the busy places she didn’t like; it was all the men that were usually there. I was sure having all the guys Bart would be bringing wouldn’t help her much.

“I promise, but Matt might come, just think about that for a minute. Oh my God, are you blushing, Holland she’s back here blushing like a virgin. Ouch!” Getting pinched was no fun, but totally worth it, to have her relaxing again.

Before I knew it we were parking in front of the house, Jessie and I hopped out while Holland said a quick goodbye before he peeled out. Rushing up to the door, I yanked Jessie into my room for her make over. I pulled a tiny black dress out of my closet and she shook her head profusely.
