“That girl’s back is such a mess that her shirt is streaked with blood. I have no fucking clue what happened, but I will find out, and you will regretevertouching a woman in that way. Especially her.” Duck vibrates with so much anger. He may take Ice out before we leave.

Torch has gotten stiffer and stiffer as Duck talked. I watch as a frightened-looking Logan returns from the hallway with a book bag of our stuff. She’s put on a sweatshirt and holds another in her hands. I go to walk over to her, but a hand on my belly stops me. I look up, and Torch lightly shakes his head.

“I’m just going to her,” I say, running a hand down his back. I watch with complete awe as he relaxes just a bit and drops his hand.

“Are you okay?” I whisper when I’m close enough to her not to be overheard.

“Yeah, he punched the wall as he left, so it shook me up a bit,” she says, sighing.

“Good! Are you ready to get out of this hell hole?” I ask her, pulling the sweatshirt over my head and throwing the book bag over my shoulder.

We walk over to Torch, and Duck lets go of Ice, coming over to us. When he is close enough to touch Logan, he rubs the top of her head. Torch and Duck both turn their backs to Fire and Ice, showing them the ultimate disrespect. We make it out the doors and are about to take off when I hear the whiz of a bullet zip by my head.

“Mother fucker!”

We spin out, throwing gravel everywhere. I wrap myself tight around the giant in front of me. I have no idea how fast we are going, just that, for the first time in I don’t know how long, I can breathe. We ride for hours until we stop at a rundown hotel. I look over at my cousin and see the first real smile on her face in years.

The tap on my leg lets me know it’s time to get off. Once I’m on my own two feet, I stretch. Torch puts his kickstand down and climbs off. I walk over to Logan.

“Are you okay?” I ask her quietly.

“Yeah, I am. Are you?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Can you believe we are free?” I question with a big smile.

“Are we really? I mean, they look and talk just like Fire and Ice. They could be as bad, if not worse. I mean, that Duck dude hit a wall when he saw my bloody shirt.” She looks at the ground like she is ashamed.

“That’s how I know they are different. He was pissed because they did that to you, and he lashed out at the wall and not at you!” I say, hoping she understands.

“We will see what happens, but Vixen, at the first sign of trouble, I’m out this time.”

“I hear you!” I say, hugging her tightly until we’re interrupted by one of the brothers, who walks over with the room keys.

He hands Logan a room key, then turns and walks away without a word. We look at each other and smile, shrugging because this is nothing new for a biker. We make it to the door, and Logan pushes it open. As I go to follow here through the door, we hear someone cursing through gritted teeth behind me, and I look over my shoulder to find Torch talking on his phone. When we make eye contact, he gives me a chin lift, leaving me confused because there is no way in hell we are sharing a fucking room with this guy.

“I think they gave us the wrong damn key,” I say as we back out of the room. Duck comes around the corner before we can get all the way out.

“Oh hey, ladies. Sorry, Razor was grazed by a bullet as we left the compound. I was helping him stitch it up. I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name…” He waits on Logan to answer.

“I’m Vixen, and this is my cousin, Vi—”

“Logan, but you can call me Lo,” she replies with a small smile.

“Lo. Razor is leaving, you can come in and shower, then I’ll doctor your back. I’m a licensed paramedic, so fixing your back is all I want.” He gives us a shy smile.

A set of arms wrap around my waist, pulling me into a hard chest. I don’t fight the warmth and safety for a second, but it’s only a second because Logan is right. We don’t know these guys and need to stay on our game until we figure them out. I pull away from the strong arms and take a deep breath.

“So, what exactly is going on? Lo got a room, but I didn’t?” I hope I’m not overstepping. With Fire, I would pay for it in ways I don’t even want to think about. The past rears its head, causing me to shudder. What if Lo’s right? What if this club is as bad, or worse, than the one we were just rescued from?

Torch props his shoulder against the door frame, crossing his arms and smirking at me. “You don’t have a key, and I have the fucking key. So, tell your girl good night, and we’ll head to bed.” His tone leaves no room for argument.

I stand up as tall as my five-foot five-inch frame will let me and get ready to go toe to toe with this jackass. “I never fucking agreed to sleep with you, and if that is what you want for pulling me away from Fire, then you can just fucking take me back.” I retort, my hands on my hips. I know mouthing off like this has the potential to cause me pain. I mean fuck, Fire kicked the shit out of me often enough for my mouth and attitude.

The smirk leaves his face as he stands to his full height. I can’t stop the shiver and dump of adrenaline into my system. All at once, I’m scared and horny as hell. Torch closes the gap between us, grabbing a handful of my hair at the base, and tilts my head back so I’m looking him in the eye.

“I want nothing from you that you are not willing to give me. Believe me, baby, you will be willing. I took you from the fucking asshole because neither you nor she deserves the shit that they were doing to you.” He points at Lo. I can’t stop my body’s reaction to this man. The second he wrapped his hands in my hair, my body went lax, and all I wanted to do was whatever he wanted.

“Now, tell your girl good night so she can get her back cleaned up and rest before tomorrow. We have a long ride, and you both need to be ready to make the ride in one day,” he whispers close to my ear, making me shiver. Torch gives my hair one last tug and then kisses my temple before pulling away from me. It takes all the control that I’ve got not to beg him to take me right now.
