“Malia, dear, I know you are not that dense. I told you that fateful night that you were mine, and I don’t fucking share. All you had to do was be a good girl. Stand by my side, look gorgeous, and keep your fucking mouth shut. Yet you decided running off was a better choice,” Oliver sneers at me.

I know he hates the dark hair and the fact I’ve gained about fifteen pounds since we were together. That’s one reason I believe he took Lawson. Her blonde hair and tiny figure are exactly Oliver’s type.

“Oliver, you know I was never very good at keeping my mouth shut. Much less following directions. So I did what I thought was best for the both of us and left. So you could find exactly what fits what you need,” I say as sweetly as I can. It tastes like acid, and I want to throw up at the words.

“Now, Malia, we both know that’s not true, don’t we? You wanted me to chase you. You were just trying to hurt me the way I did when giving you your lessons. See, my sweet doll, all you did was anger me, and now look what you’ve made me do,” he finishes, pointing to Lawson.

Is this guy really that delusional? How could I have been so fucking stupid? There is no way he believes the shit coming out of his mouth. I finally find some words and ask him if he’s really that special when he pulls a cell phone from his pocket and glares at it.

“We’ll finish this when I’m done with this call. Owen, take them back to the basement,” Oliver says as he places the phone to his ear.

Owen pulls me to my feet with a gentle grip that looks rough; how he can accomplish that, I have no idea. I turn to ask a question when he gives me a subtle head shake. I follow the silent order and drop my head, following Lawson as we head back to the basement. I subtly take in everything around us, so when I find my way out of the hell hole Owen is taking us to, we’ll be able to get to freedom.

We get to the basement, and I realize Owen is the only man with us, and I think for a split second about trying to take him down. Yet again, this man sees everything.

“I would break your arm before the thought was completely formed, little one. Just sit tight and believe that your stay will be very short,” Owen says, disappearing down the row of cages and out a door that was completely camouflaged.

I look back at Lawson, giving her a ‘what the fuck’ look. When I see a glimpse of my friend behind the fear and pain, I know everything will be okay.

We are sitting quietly when the sound of gunshots brings us to our feet. Owen was right; Theo has come, and I know he has an army at his back. I pull Lawson to her feet and watch the door, waiting for whoever will come down the stairs. When the basement door flies open, I want to scream in pure frustration when Oliver appears at the top of the stairs.

“Well, sweet doll, it looks like our time here is up. It’s time to go,” Oliver says, pulling me from my cage and hauling me towards the hidden door.

“No! We aren’t going anywhere!” I yell at him as I throw a punch, catching him in the nose. I take off, running toward the basement door, knowing that Theo and my brother are up there.

I’m about to take the first step when a hand in my hair stops. “Not so fast, you little bitch. You’ll fucking pay for that,” Oliver says, licking up the side of my neck before biting hard enough to draw blood.

“I would suggest letting go of her,” I hear growled in such a feral voice that I have to look to make sure it’s Theo speaking.

“Oh, if it isn’t the white knight. You know, if it wasn’t for the one image of my girl at your new nightclub, I’d still be looking for her,” Oliver taunts.

“No, my mistake was letting you live after I learned what happened to Malia. That is a mistake that I will not be making again; I can promise you that. The only choice you have is if it’s here in your sick little dungeon or in mine,” Theo states, looking like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

“The thing is that I have what you want, and you are a Boy Scout who won’t risk hitting this gorgeous little doll. So you tell me: are we leaving everyone breathing, or am I killing you then leaving?” Oliver finishes, pointing a gun right at Theo.

“Plus, there is no way you could kill me, and it not start a war between families,” Oliver says, laughing maniacally.

“See, that’s where you are very wrong. You see, O’Malley Senior told your father what would happen if one hair on Malia’s head was harmed. Up until about two minutes ago, you might have walked away, breathing, but now that there is blood running down her collarbone, you don’t get to live,” Theo says, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the railing like we have all day.

“My father would never agree to that. Never! I’m his oldest! He would…” Oliver stops talking and slumps into my back so quickly I don’t have time to catch myself before we’re falling.

I close my eyes, waiting for the impact of the stairs, but it doesn’t come, and I’m caught mid-fall. I look up into the eyes of the only man for me. He is mine and has been since I came running back from school scared. I know the eyes I always felt on me, keeping me safe, were his.

“I love you, Theo,” I say just before I feel a searing pain in my side, and everything goes black.

Epilogue

Theo

I stare at my bride as she makes her way toward me. She is perfect in her white dress, with her long dark hair flowing in loose curls down her back and her father at her side. I couldn’t be happier. When we are done here, we are headed to 7 Deadly Sins for the reception. I let the tears fall at her beauty because I’ll never forget the feel of her lifeless body in my arms.

I catch Malia as Oliver falls, out cold from the pipe to the back of his head delivered Lawson. Once she is in my arms, I catch my breath for the first time since this all started. I almost fall on my ass at the words that come out of her mouth.

“I love you, Theo,” she tells me just before she goes still in my arms.

I pull her close, trying to figure out what’s happened when I feel her life flowing from her body due to a bullet hole in her side. Lawson’s scream breaks through, and I see Oliver’s right-hand man pulling a fighting and screaming Lawson towards the back wall. The glee in his eyes gets even brighter when a door I wasn’t aware of flies open and in steps Owen.

“Grab this bitch so I can get the boss,” the dead fucker says, handing Lawson to Owen.
