Why does the sight of her make me lose my mind every damn time? -Hawk

I’ve watched her all day. I watched her while she joked around with Eddie at the Devil’s Rest Motel. I watched him hand her a fresh cup of coffee and the way she threw her head back at something he said. I watched, mesmerized as she walked through downtown, stopping to say hello to random people on the street, and then finally ended up here at Evie’s place. She may be the friendliest woman I’ve ever met. It’s no hardship to watch her. Hell, every step she takes is a turn on. Those hips of hers swinging and her shapely legs encased in tight black leggings…yeah, I could watch Maggie all day.

And yes, I know her name is Maggie. I had Chip, the technological wizard of the group, look into her background. Evie wouldn’t tell me shit, protective as always of anyone thatcame through her bookstore. All I had was the name Samantha Shivers, her author pseudonym, and I had a feeling that was not her real name. The feisty redhead just didn’t strike me as a Samantha.

It took Chip all of five minutes to find out her real name. Maggie Malone, heir to a publishing fortune 500 company, and daughter of the notorious Frank Malone. Frank not only had his fingers on the pulse of the publishing world, but he was also known for having those plumb fingers in various pies, including some of which could be considered illegal. Okay, were in fact, very illegal. He had ties to the Southern mafia. So, what the hell was his precious daughter doing here in a small town in Colorado? And why was she so fascinated with our MC? Was it simply for a book or did she need something else?

I watch her smile and giggle at something that Evie just said. She shakes that long red hair of hers back and I feel something in my gut. I would love to label it lust, but it feels like something more than that. There’s a tug of possession that I can’t shake.

I suck in a deep breath of air when she approaches the door. She hasn’t seen me lounging by my bike yet. I fold my arms and wait for the look on her face when she finally does notice me.

She’s looking at the ground as the bell above the door rings. When she finally looks up at me, there’s a split second where those luscious lips of hers lift upward into a smile. There’s also a glimmer of something bright in her eyes. All that is snuffed out when I straighten up my body from my folded position. Her face changes to an expression of wariness as I approach her.

“How’s it goin’? How was book club?” I ask in a bland voice. No matter what, it still sounds like I’m grilling her.

She folds her arms and gives me a hard look. “How did you know I was at book club?”

I roll my eyes. “That’s common town gossip, honey. Everybody knew you were gonna be here gabbing about your books with the club. That’s not hard information to find out.”

Her cheeks redden. “I guess not.” She shifts her feet and gives me a skeptical look. “So, is that why you’re here? To see me since you knew I would be around?”

I shrug. “Maybe, maybe not.” Now, she’s the one to roll her eyes and I don’t blame her. I sound like a stupid teenage boy teasing his crush.

I sigh. “Shit. Yeah, I’m here to see you.” I stalk closer to her. So close that I notice her breathing speed up and I can see her pupils dilate. Yeah, whatever this attraction is between us, it works both ways. And it’s apparently pretty damn potent.

“Why?” she asks softly. She tilts her head. “I thought you wanted me gone. Why would you want to talk to me? And why have you been asking Evie about me?”

“Ha,” I growl. “You’re one to talk. You’ve been asking about our MC everywhere you go. Why? Who sent you here?”

She gulps and red rides high on those pretty cheeks of hers again. She looks to her right and left, the guilty look in her eyes belying any lies she’s about to tell me.

I run my finger along her soft jaw. “Why do you want to know about the Savage Kings?”

She steps back, but I follow her, crowding her up against the brick storefront. I brace one arm over her head and lean forward. “What secrets are you hiding, pretty little author?” I whisper. I can’t seem to stop myself as I place a small kiss on the shell of her ear.

She lets out a whimper that sends heated blood straight to my cock.God, I want this woman.

Her heated green eyes look up at me. There’s a slice of anger there, but mostly there’s the same desire I feel.

“It’s none of your business. I’m not bothering you.” Her voice shakes and she takes a quick breath in as I run my finger along the smooth line of her pale neck.

“Oh princess, you bother me just by breathing. And looking so damn pretty while you do it.”

I can’t hold back anymore. I have to have a taste of her. She’s already in my blood. Already under my skin and part of me. There’s something about her that speaks to the beast within me.

My lips lightly touch hers at first. I’m gentle, afraid to spook her. But when her pink tongue rubs along the crease of my lips, I’m a goner. My mouth opens and I take her inside. My tongue twines with her and I feel a spark move down my body in response. I explore her mouth with mine, taking in the delicious taste of her. I move closer, wanting to feel the heat of her body against mine.Fuck, I can feel every curve. My hard cock digs into her stomach and I lean down further, bringing the kiss deeper. I want to grind against her. I want to…

“I’m closing up shop now. Y’all might want to move along.” Evie’s dry voice breaks through the thick fog of lust surrounding us both.

Maggie’s head snaps back so fast that she hits the hard brick with a thump. I wince.

“Wh…wh?” Maggie can’t even get the question out as she looks from me to Evie with a glazed look in her green eyes.

I back up, taking three painful steps away from her. I glance over at Evie and give her a wink. “Sorry, Evie. I’ll get going.”

I don’t say we because I need space. I need to get my head together. And that’s not going to happen with Maggie standing there with her bruised lips wide open and that beguiling heated look on her face.

I swing my leg over my bike.
