I don’t need a woman invading my thoughts when I have business to do. Too bad she seems to be stuck there. -Hawk

That redhead sure was built. And the way her green eyes lit up when she was angry…shit, she was feisty. The wet dream I had about her last night makes my dick stir again. She was wearing nothing but a smile and beckoning to me from underneath the waterfall. I bent her over a rock and…

“Fuck, Hawk are you listening to anything I said? Where the hell is your head at, man?” Prez’s voice finally breaks through my haze of lust. The furious look on his cragged face is enough to bring me back down to Earth with a plop. If not that, then surely Deadeye’s icy stare would be enough to do it. My boner deflates so fast I’m surprised there isn’t an audible pop.

I register the smell of whiskey and the fog of smoke that permeates our club meeting place, The Black Crown. Thebackroom designated just for us is buzzing with the talk of the members and I don’t know how the hell I got so lost in my own head.

“I’m sorry, Prez.” I send him my best placating smile, but it crumbles when all I get back is another hard stare. I clear my throat. “What were you saying?”

“I was saying…” he grits his teeth and hardens his voice, “I think we need to keep an eye on those fools that are callin’ themselves the Sons of Decimation. They’re obviously looking to pull something again. Hawk, if you can get your head out of your ass, I was planning to send you and Deadeye to check out that property over in Cherokee County.”

“Sure, no problem. We’ll find ‘em.”

“I’ve got other club business to attend to. Do I need to worry about you, Hawk? You’ve always been steady, but maybe you need a break?” There’s steel behind that rough voice of his and I know he means business.

Not many people intimidate me. I’m six-five and I’m not being cocky when I say I’m a tough son-of-a bitch. But Prez, who gives off an energy of complete control…well, Prez intimidates the hell out of me.

I shuffle my feet awkwardly, feeling like a kid caught nodding off in class. I almost hang my head, but my pride won’t let me do that. “I’m fine, Prez. Won’t happen again.”

“Better not.” With no more words than that, he stalks off to talk to other members.

“Fuck,” I mutter under my breath.

“Better get your shit together, man.” Deadeye’s voice is harsh, but there’s an undercurrent of sympathy there. If he’s telling me to get my shit together, that means I really need to sort my stuff out.

Damn woman has no idea what she’s doing to me.

“I will,” I vow.

Deadeye doesn’t utter another word, but the look he gives me as he turns around is enough to express his doubt.

Fuck, now that mouthy redhead is even distracting me during club business.I need to do something to cleanse this woman from my mind.

Maybe I can fuck her and get it out of my system. It’s been a while. Not that I don’t have the opportunity,I say to myself. Lo, the busty blonde that always hangs out at The Black Crown would fuck me right now if I even gave her a hint that I was interested. Hell, she’s right outside the door sitting at the bar. I could go out there and get some now. Get rid of this itch and maybe stop thinking about the no-named redhead. Something in my gut roils at the thought.Nope, my body doesn’t want Lo. My body only wants one person, and it isn’t her.

I need to find my mystery woman. And I need to know more about her. And then I need to fuck her like she’s never been fucked before. Maybe then she’ll leave my blood. Maybe then I’ll be able to think straight.

I think back to the very limited information she gave me.Damn. Looks like I’m taking a trip to talk to Evie at the bookstore.

Chapter Five

Maggie

I don’t want to go back to being under anyone’s thumb, even his. -Maggie

“What do you mean there was a guy asking about me? What did he look like? What did he say? Was he wearing a suit?” My heart gallops a mile a minute thinking about who it could be. It’s probably one of my parents’ investigators. I knew they would find me, even with booking everything under my pen name. They aren’t dumb. Maybe my cousin cracked. Maybe they’re going to force me to go back home, to marry…

“Relax honey, it was just Hawk. I guess you’ve met him. He said down by the waterfall?” Her perceptive green eyes peer at me over her tortoise-shell glasses as they slip down her petite nose.

“Oh,” I say simply, and feel my shoulders relax. “Hawk,” I mutter. “I wondered what his name was.”

Evie simply hums and continues putting books back into their correct places. “I thought the book club went well. Didn’t you?” she asks in her soft voice.

“Yeah, um, it was fun…” It was fun. The book club, Shelf Indulgence, is an eclectic mix of enthusiastic readers. They read my first book,Broken Innocence, a new adult romance, and were eager to ask me questions. I still couldn’t get used to the fact that anyone cared what I wrote. If only I was making enough money selling my books to live on my own. I desperately needed the wider audience that would hopefully read my MC series.

I shake my head.Never mind that…I needed to know more about this Hawk guy.An image of his naked body flashes across my mind, and I shiver. I’ve already had a few naughty dreams about the rugged tough guy.

“What was um, Hawk, asking? What did you tell him?” I ask Evie in what I hope is a casual voice.
