I don’t answer, I just drop my head to the bar top and groan. I do have it bad for my pregnant roommate, and I don’t know how I’m going to stay away from her now.

EVERLY

Sophie joins me for lunch a few days later. Of course, we’re not really alone. Cole and Nash sit a few booths away. Rowan had to be with his brother today because they have the grand opening for their new bar this weekend. He tried to bail on him so he could take us, Grayson put his foot down, though, and made him go along. He said if he couldn’t be with his wife today that Rowan couldn’t be with me.

I love how protective Rowan is of me.

“So, how are things going?” Sophie asks before taking a sip of her drink.

“Everything is good,” I tell her. “I feel like the clubhouse is home and I didn’t expect that.”

She smiles. “It has that effect on people. I felt the same way when I came back.”

Sophie was in Atlanta for seven years and came back to Silver Springs when her dad died. He was the president of the Sovereign Sons and had run her out of town when he found out she was pregnant. I never knew the guy, but I hate him. He kept Sophie and Asher from Grayson and Grayson lost out on six years of his son’s life.

The waitress comes over to take our order and we talk while we wait for our food. We talk a lot about being pregnant and what I should expect when I go into labor. Sophie quells my nerves.

When our food comes, we devour it. During the silence as we eat, I contemplate telling Sophie about my feelings for Rowan. I know that I can trust her and that she’ll have some sort of advice for me, especially since she’s known Rowan for most of her life. I told Nicole about it, and she was ecstatic, but she doesn’t understand the club or know Rowan.

“So, I kind of have something to confess and I think you’re going to think I’m crazy for it,” I blurt out after pushing my plate away.

Sophie wipes her mouth with her napkin and arches a brow at me. “Why would I think you’re crazy?”

I wince. “Because I may or may not have feelings for Rowan.”

I swear I see Sophie flinch and then she just stares at me for a solid minute.

“Uh, Sophie? Say something,” I urge.

“I just think you need to be careful,” she tells me softly.

“Why?”

She sighs. “There are just some things you don’t know yet.”

My blood turns to ice. “Like what?”

Sadie purses her lips, like she’s not sure if she should tell me, but ultimately decides to. “We know new information about Travis. The Sovereign Sons looked into him further because they needed to know the threat to you. They hacked into his emailaccount and found messages between Travis and his dad. They planned to fuck over the Devil’s Knights.”

My stomach drops. “What do you mean they planned to fuck them over?”

Sophie reaches across the table and takes my hand, squeezing it gently. “Travis and his dad planned everything. They told the Devil’s Knights that they would set up businesses for them in Silver Springs, knowing full and well that they had no intention of doing so. They took their money and never planned to do anything for them.”

My blood rushes in my ears. Travis and his father did something that knowingly put us in danger and they did it for money. Why would they do that? Better yet, why didn’t Rowan tell me all of this? I thought we were in a good place and that I could trust him. More importantly, why am I more mad at Rowan than Travis right now?

I drop my head into my palms and take a deep breath and then I shock the hell out of Sophie by pulling myself from the table and walking to the door. I can’t hear what she’s saying as I walk away, but I hear her scrambling behind me, probably paying the bill so she can catch up to me. I know that Nash and Cole are just as shocked. They’re not even done with their food when I walk by their booth, but they hop to their feet, throwing money onto the table and following me outside.

I make it to my SUV before one of them stops me. “What’s going on Everly?” Nash asks as he comes to stand beside me.

I look up into his dark eyes. “I need to go back to the clubhouse,” I grit out. “Now.”

He frowns at me in confusion and then nods his head before opening the SUV for me. I climb into the passenger seat, and he walks around to the driver’s side while Cole and Sophie hop intothe back. I can feel their concern in the air for the entire drive. They don’t know what’s wrong. Well, Sophie knows, but she doesn’t know why I’m reacting this way. Hell, I don’t even know why I’m reacting this way.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt this betrayed. My fiancé and the father of my child screwed over criminals, and it ultimately resulted in him dying and leaving our child behind. His father was a part of it. And Rowan.Rowan kept it from me.

I don’t even see the surroundings pass as we make our way to the clubhouse, but the second we pull past those gates, I’m aware. Nash pulls my SUV to a stop and I’m whipping my seatbelt off and flinging the door open, stomping toward the clubhouse and throwing open the door.
