Micah nods and heads for the apartment, with Sophia trailing behind. I turn to Elise next. “You’ve got your phone on, right? Hopefully we’ll get some responses to the news report. We also need to get you, Matt, and Sophia set up with guns.”

“The guns we have,” Matt says. “Finding silver bullets for them will be the problem.”

Bree snorts. “Wulf’s ex-clan brother probably has a whole closet full of them, and if he doesn’t, he’ll know how to get them.”

I point at her. “Very true. Let’s get Illren on it. I’m sure he’ll be happy to help.”

I look to Matt. “Let him know the situation, and he’ll get you whatever you need.”

Matt’s face pales. “You want me to call the assassin?”

I try not to, but I chuckle. Illren is terrifying. I clamp my beta on the shoulder and say to Matt, “Don’t worry. Bree can deal with Illren. You just tell her what you need.”

Bree side-eyes me. “Thanks, sir,” she says dryly.

I grin. “You’ll be fine. Kovros appreciates beautiful, strong, feisty women.”

Bree snorts again.

Turning to the rest of my waiting pack, I address the three visiting wolves. “Elise mentioned you have expressed interest in joining our pack.”

The three men exchange glances. Jack clears his throat. “That’s correct. Myself, my wife, Sean, his wife, and his two children.”

“I would be happy to have you all, however this is pretty terrible timing. If you’d like to keep your families unaffiliated with us and out of harm’s way until this is over, I understand. Your acceptance will not be hindered by whether or not you choose to fight with us.”

The men all share looks again, then each fall to one knee. “Thank you for this honor, Alpha,” Jack says. “We accept and pledge our loyalty to you and this pack. We will proudly fight alongside you.”

And, not surprisingly, my bite-happy wolf surges forward, taking over before I can stop him. He shifts me right out of my damn pants again.Damn it, you impatient bastard! We need to talk to Alpha Fuller first, and give their families warning!

My wolf does not care, nor does he listen to me. In less than a minute, he’s slashed his claws through their old pack marks and claimed them as ours.I’m sorry, I say through our new link as soon as their bonds are formed. My wolf has been a little too enthusiastic lately. With Skylar in so much danger, I’ve been struggling with control.

My wolf huffs.

We understand, Alpha, Jack says.

Your alpha will have felt the bond sever. I’ll call him and explain. Call your families before they panic.

Yes, Alpha.

Welcome to the pack.

Satisfied and annoyingly smug, my wolf allows me to shift back. I quickly search for the phone I had in my pocket. Isabella’s a step ahead of me, already holding it out. “Thanks.” Searching through my contacts for Alpha Fuller’s number, I say, “Take Ben and Easton and set up some kind of patrol. We need to assume Victor will attack at any moment. Jack, Sean, and Luke can help as soon as they’ve contacted their families.”

Isabella nods. “We’re on it, Alpha.”

I’m already holding the ringing phone to my ear as I give her one last nod of thanks, then I head to my makeshift office praying my new ally will accept my apology. Alpha Fuller picks up just as I close the door behind me. “What the hell is going on?” he snaps.

“They’re fine,” I assure him quickly. “It was me.”

“Youclaimedthem?” He sounds surprised and annoyed, but thankfully not enraged as I expected.

I plop down in a chair with a sigh. “I’m so sorry. It’s a long story, but I’ve been having control issues with my wolf ever since I met Skylar.”

“Your mate?”

“Yes. She’s my fated mate.”

“Fated! I didn’t think those stories were true.”
