The three shift, and two of them pick up their friend’s body. The third steps up to me, cradling his shattered arm. “Are you sure? We would be loyal.”
I growl. “Your leader lost a fair dominance challenge, and the three of you jumped me like cowards and cheaters. You showed no honor. I would not accept you even if I did want a pack. Which I don’t.”
But then, why did my wolf almost claim them?
The man grimaces, unable to argue with me. He and his comrades broke the rules of a challenge. No pack leader would accept them after that. That’s the problem with rogues. They have no honor. No discipline.
The man nods his acceptance and takes off with his buddies. That just leaves the she-wolf, who is still watching me. I glare at her. “Go. Now.”
She grinds her teeth, but gives up the fight and storms out of the club. Once she’s gone, Terrance eyes me with a grimace. “You okay?”
I’m a little worse for the wear, but not too bad considering I was jumped by four wolves. “They got in a few decent bites and scratches, but it’s nothing that won’t heal.”
He looks me over again and decides I’m telling the truth. He nods, but then his scowl comes back, and he crosses his arms over his chest again. “You want to tell me what that was about?”
“Damn she-wolves,” I grumble. “Always the same.”
“That’s not what I meant. You were about to claim those wolves as pack.”
I want to deny it, but I can’t. I shake my head, as baffled as he is. “I don’t know. My wolf wanted them. I don’t understand it.”
There’s a long pause, and then Terrance sighs. “Perhaps you’ve been a lone wolf too long.” I open my mouth to argue, but he cuts me off. “You’re an extremely dominant alpha. It’s instinct.”
I frown, not liking that he’s right. “It’s never beenmyinstinct. I don’t want a pack.”
“You sure about that, brother?”
There’s nothing but concern in Terrance’s gaze. I grip his shoulder. “I have a clan. That’s all I need.”
He considers this for a long moment and then nods. “All right. Go get yourself cleaned up. I can hold down the fort here until you’re back. You should have some extra clothes up in my suite.”
I look down at my nude, bloody body and smirk. “You sure you don’t want me serving drinks in the buff? I’d bring in a crowd.”
Terrance snorts. “I don’t need any more ladies causing trouble in my club.”
I grin at him and wave toward my body. “True. All this is probably much too tempting.”
Not to sound conceited, but I draw a crowd even with my clothes on. I’m over six feet tall and have a build even the most jacked pro athletes would be jealous of. I have lightly-tanned skin, bright-green eyes, thick brown hair, a rugged five o’clock shadow, and a smile women swoon over. Between my looks, my dominance, and my flirty nature, it’s no wonder I’ve always had a problem with she-wolves.
Terrance rolls his eyes and heads behind the bar. “Let me know if any of those gashes need stitches.”
I head to Terrance’s office to wash up and find spare clothes. On the way, I can’t help seeking out the beautiful female. Her eyes are already on me. She’s gaping at me. I suppose I can’t blame her. Pretty much everyone in the club is staring at me now. I shoot her a wink, reassuring her that I’m fine, and she startles again. She drops her gaze to her drink, but a pretty blush spreads across her cheeks. I grin. If I weren’t naked and bloody, I’d head straight to her and introduce myself. Alas, it’ll have to wait.
Chapter
Two
By the time I’m cleaned up and dressed, the club is a little busier. I seek out my mystery woman and am sad to see she’s no longer sitting at her table. I suppose it’s for the best. I’ve got work to do.
My older brother, Rook, is filling in for me behind the bar. He works as the club’s maintenance man, but often joins me behind the bar if there’s not much else to do. He likes to be busy, but he also likes being a busybody. The man gossips more than anyone I know, and is, no doubt, up here so that he can get all the dirt. He smirks when he sees me. “Again, huh?”
I roll my eyes and start helping out with the small crowd waiting for drinks.
“Who was it this time?”
“Daughter of the Bay City alpha.”
His eyes lift toward the ceiling as he thinks. “Bay City? I’ve heard they’re a decent pack.” He gives me another shit-eating grin. “You think she came on her own, or you think Daddy sent her to snag the great Wulf Winters? We should get you on that TV show,The Bachelor. Every available she-wolf in the country would sign up.”
