It was their future that mattered.

Graham was no longer alone. No matter where their relationship went, he was responsible for Julia and their child.

He made the four-hour drive in two and a half as he arrived at the emergency room entrance, he parked his car haphazardly and rushed inside, not even bothering to lock the doors. He practically sprinted to the front desk, asking frantically for Julia’s room number.

The receptionist gave him a sympathetic look and directed him to the elevator. Graham thanked her hastily before rushing to the elevator and pressing the button repeatedly.

Once he reached Julia’s floor, he burst out of the elevator and ran down the hallway, his heart pounding in his chest.

“Graham!”

He spun around to see Melody and Wes walking down the hall toward them.

“Someone tell me something before I lose my mind. Where’s my girl?!” The ache of uncertainty grew in his chest and he wouldn’t be settled in any way until he had her in his sights.

“I’ll tear thi–”

“She’s down the hall, room four-one-four.” Wes placed his hand on Graham’s chest. “Julia’s okay, breathe. Someone broke a window and there was glass.”

Wes’ words didn’t register and Graham hurried down the hall, heading straight for Julia. Grabbing the doorframe to her room, he paused to catch his breath and took in the sight of her.

Julia was curled on the hospital bed, her skin pale against the hospital sheets. Her hair was in a sloppy bun and he recognized the missing checkered shirt she wore.

His shoe squeaked against the tile and gained Julia’s attention. “Graham?!” She sat up as he approached.

“Julia!”

“I told Mel not to bother you that I would call in the morning. Oh, hon!” Graham checked her over. “The baby’s fine.”

“What about you?!”

“I’m okay, a little shaky.”

“My mind went everywh–”

“Graham.”

“I thought something happened toyou. We’ll make a thousand babies but there’s only one you.“ Graham internally winced at his poor choice of words. “I’m sorry, that sounds horrible.”

“We’re okay. He’s kicking a storm.”

“H-he?”

“Oh no! Graham, I didn’t mean to. They surprised me with it and–”

He kissed her fiercely, silencing her words. “Promise to be a spoiling boy mom like Mia and not one of the weird Instagram moms?”

“I promise!” She laughed caught up in the moment. Julia swallowed thickly and looked down. “I’m glad you’re here.”

“Me too. I’m sorry, kitten.” Graham tightened his arms around her, holding her tight against his chest and swearing it would be a long time before he let her go so long between touches.

Julia clung to him, her nails digging into his biceps and it wasn’t until the first shake that he realized she was crying. Her sob tore through him and he climbed onto the hospital bed, dwarfing her and scooping her into his lap.

Graham covered them with the blanket and held her as she cried. He lulled her and stroked her hair until she settled, allowing her to throw it all at his feet.

Graham pulled back and looked into her beautiful blue eyes. “What happened?”

She used her sleeve to wipe her face. “I was working on Mia’s dress–oh my god, I think I got blood on the dress!“ Julia’s eyes widened as the realization hit.
