The Next Day. . .

Once I had my babies in the bed, I got to work. I called Ned, Croy, and Taelyn to tell them what I needed. It wasn’t a problem. By four o’clock that morning, Mr. Cook’s classroom was wired with cameras. I needed video evidence so when I beat this nigga’s ass in his classroom, they would understand why.

I told my baby boy that I needed him to go to class one more time. Today would be the last day that he was not only in that class, but more than likely the school. I told him to be a good boy.

I had to tell Ruth what was up. She went through multiple emotions, one behind the other. There was sadness, hurt, anger, then rage. I had to calm her ass down during the rage stage. Her ass came out of our closet with her yes ma’am.After I talked her down and ensured her that I would handle it, I fucked the sanctification out of her. That ‘we ready’ shit was sexy.

“You ready, Bubba?” Ned asked me. He, TJ, and I were sitting in my truck across the street from the school, with the feed to the camera on a large tablet. “Remember, don’t kill his ass.”

TJ sucked his teeth. “Shit, I woulda had to take dat charge. Fuck wit’ my boy, you fuck wit’ my bullets.”

Croy had surgeries all day, so he sent TJ in his stead. I wasn’t sure why he picked this nutty nigga. We were threenutty niggas in a truck. That couldn’t be good for anyone’s sensibilities.

“Yeah, I’m ready. Man, this is crazy.” My sons had just gotten to school about fifteen minutes ago. There were no kids in the classroom yet.

Moments later, the kids filed in. I watched Joseph put his bookbag in his cubby. Mr. Cook walked over to my son while he was still at his cubby. “Did you practice your words like we talked about?”

Ruth and I worked with the boys on their words daily. “Yes, sir. I did.” When the teacher told him to spell dear, my face tightened. That was not one of his words. I watched my son try to sound it out. “That was not one of the words, Mr. Cook.”

“For a little boy so smart, you sure are dumb.” He took my son’s bookbag out of the cubby, unzipped it, then dumped all the contents on the floor. My son had a favorite little LEGO ball that he carried everywhere. A tear fell from my eyes when this grown man stepped on it.

My son dropped to his knees and tried to repair it. One of the other kids came over to help, but Mr. Cook yelled at him too. The boy jumped then ran off. Tears fell down my son’s cheeks. The teacher grabbed Joseph by the back of his collar and told him that he had less than five minutes to pick his stuff up, or he couldn’t eat lunch. As Mr. Cook walked off, he kicked the broken pieces of the ball.

“Yeah, so are we lightly killing this nigga or like savagely?” TJ asked from the back seat. “This nigga is out of pocket. Hell, he’s out of the pants altogether.”

Ned sighed. “Mega, I know you want to run up in there right now, but we need a little more on video. I already called Draco and told him what was going on. He said Elsa is ready to see him whenever you’re ready.”

Elsa was Dr. Emma Prentiss’s wife and a child therapist. Yeah, we were going to need her. Not only was my son traumatized by this asshole. He was also about to be traumatized when he watched me beat this man to a pulp in a few minutes. We waited until right before lunch before I headed into the school.

In that time, we watched this man taunt my child in front of his classmates. The children knew that it was wrong because they consoled Joseph every chance they got. The security guard at the school was a family friend, so he didn’t think twice about letting Ned, TJ, and me in. We all made sure that we weren’t armed. If I was, I would pop this dude.

All the attention turned to me when I walked into the classroom. “Daddy!” Joseph jumped from his seat and ran to me.

I grabbed him into my arms and gave him a tight hug. I felt his tears wet the shoulder of my shirt. “I got you, man. I told you that I got you.” I handed him off to Ned. “Go with your Uncle Ned.”

I waited for Ned to leave the room with Joseph. Mr. Cook walked over to me. “Mr. Manfield, this is a surprise. How can I help you?”

“Mr. Cook, I think it would be in the best interest for us to have this conversation out of the eyes of your students.” My voice was low. “Is there somewhere that we can talk, or can you call someone to get your kids?”

There were about fifteen other kids in the classroom. He nodded with concern, but he told the children to form a line. It took him a few minutes to move the children out of the classroom. Not sure where he took them, and I wasn’t sure that I cared. I chuckled when he walked back in because he was more confident than when he left. He must have given himself a pep talk.

There was an area in his class where he could have conferences with parents. Once he, TJ, and I were settled, he spoke. “Mr. Manfield, how can I help you?”

TJ handed me the tablet. I flipped it over to queue up the video. “Mr. Cook, I want you to take a look at this video. Just press the play button.”

He took the tablet into his hands. I saw the perplexed expression on his face when he noticed the setting of the video. He pressed the play button. The only thing that could be heard in the room was what was said on the recording. He was speechless.

“Do you have anything to say for yourself and your treatment of not only my son but the other children as well? It seems like you targeted my son though.” My demeanor was real cool, but inside, I was prepared to pounce.Yeah, fuck all this.“You know what? I don’t think I care about what you have to say.”

I extended my hand to have him give me back my tablet. He placed it in my hand, and I passed it to TJ. The second my hands were free, I was up, and a punch was delivered to Mr. Cook’s face. The sound of his nose cracking satisfied me. I made sure I delivered several blows to his head. Yeah, I wanted to gift him with brain damage so his ass wouldn’t have the ability to teach kids anymore.

“Mega! Mega!” I felt TJ arm pull me back. “He’s done, bro.”

I must have blacked out, because this man was on the floor almost dead. Seconds later, a few people came into the room screaming all the oh my Gods and stuff. If I were a normal person, I would probably be shocked at my actions too. I casually walked over to his desk to use the disinfectant wipes to clean the blood off my hands. After my hands were clean, I sat back in the seat in the parents’ conference area and waited. I knew that Ned had already left with Joseph as we planned.

Less than ten minutes later, the police came in. Officer Durham stopped his footsteps to assess the scene. I knew he would have to arrest me, but I wouldn’t worry since he was on Nedrick Senior and Junior’s payroll. “Mega, man, I got to take you in.”

That was cool. I was ready for whatever came with this. My children were off limits.
