Although, I’m a little surprised Elder Eric wasn’t screaming it from the rooftops after the annual mating ceremony. He probably knew it would be better to be farther away from me before sending reinforcements.
The council is not impressed.Word has finally got back to them about the destruction of my mate’s pack.He had it coming.I knew there would be repercussions when he learned who’d been sabotaging his business dealings.
Yet killing innocent people, women, and children is despicable. They were not involved; his issue was with me and my men.Now I must deal with the repercussions of the council. They’ve turned a blind eye to his dealings for far too long.I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they had a hand in this all along. How else would he have gotten away with it with the human governments without the council interfering?
Reaching my office, I slide my chair out and take my seat.I flip through the paperwork on my desk, going over what Kyriowas able to find out about Emery.Which was little to nothing. Not even a birth certificate, which isn’t odd.A lot of Alphas don’t record the births of their heirs for safety reasons.Children, just like mates, are a weapon that can be used against them. So, I am surprised there weren’t even whispers about him having children.
It wasn’t until Anastasia stumbled upon the girl loitering on our borders that I realized he had a daughter.Though she was skeptical, she wasn’t his until DNA proved she was.
Emery believes her father is an innocent party, collateral damage to a random rogue attack.Rogues don’t attack randomly; rarely do they attack packs at all.Why would they when they know it is a death sentence? For the most part, rogues are nomads and stick to themselves, and some packs try to help them.A heap are rogue from banishment, but most are from fallen packs.
Sure, there are a few camps, communes, but I would hardly call them organized enough to plan out a full-scale attack.Especially against my pack. That’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me, of all packs. And such perfect timing.Without my men and me here my people are defenseless. And only a select few knew of my meeting.
Under any other circumstance, rogues entering my pack isn’t unheard of.We look out for them, they look out for us.The local rogues here came to help, so I know these were outsiders. And the only person I know who uses rogues are the council and Alpha Michael.
The attack must have been orchestrated by him.He was well known for using rogues as a way to keep tabs on packs and human cities. They act as his eyes and ears, supporting him in his vile bidding.I knew straight away it wasn’t a random rogue attack.
He may have put up a good front for his family, for the humans, but we all knew what he was doing.Only I had the balls to try to put an end to it.Just, I didn’t have the proof until Trinity, Emery’s sister, came here that night over a year ago.
After the attack, I planned to retrieve her knowing she wouldn’t be safe. Now I know why Anastasia never heard fromher again.I wonder if he counted his daughter as collateral damage.Or did he think he could easily replace her?
I have so many questions, one being why Trinity never mentioned having siblings. Two: What part does her grandmother play in all this.My first impression was that she didn’t seem to like Michael very much. And three: Is Emery truly that brainwashed and oblivious that she doesn’t know who her father is?
I refuse to believe she knew absolutely nothing about her father. No one speaks ill of the man out of fear, but we all know her father for being the country’s largest sex trafficker.Surely, she questioned where their riches came from?Or was she truly that sheltered, she had no idea. But then another thing comes to mind. She is not Alpha blood; she may have the ego of one, the balls of one, but she is Omega. The chances of two Alphas producing an Omega is as rare as finding hen with teeth.Damn impossible!
But if she isn’t their daughter, whose is she, and what of her brother?Either she is trafficked and has no memory of it, or she is the product of an affair.
Hearing the door click open, I sit back in my desk chair, my thoughts evaporating as I see one of the council members waltz on in like he owns the place.Kyrio steps in behind him, and I lean back in my chair watching the elder’s face turn fifty shades of outrage.
The council member is short, and his stature is anything but regal. He wears a black tailored suit that is three inches too long for his short stature. His greasy black hair is slicked back, and his face is sporting a thick beard, cut in a perfect line along his jaw.His eyes, black as night, bore into me.
“Samuel, I was expecting someone sooner, honestly.Did you get lost on your way here?”I ask him and get pleasure watching his canines elongate. The council believes they have control over the packs, believe they have control over me, but they don’t.
They can cut supplying us and cut our shipments off, but I may keep the peace for the sake of the pack and to ensure no cut-offs.But my pack is self-sufficient.They are more than capable of living without help. Not that we need it, the council may have resources, policies, laws, but I don’t fear their infringements as the other packs do.I have something far more valuable than they do.
Fear...
Packs fear the council for infringements, jail time, resources being cut off. They fear me for another reason entirely, even if the council did cut my pack off from werewolf society.I still have resources within other packs, debts owed, favors that can be collected at any time, but something far more sinister lurks out here than any piece of paper trying to uphold pissy laws made by men scared of their own shadows.
“You wiped out his pack!Do you have any idea what you’ve done?”His voice is a low grumble, his tone angry and full of misplaced authority.I’ve never liked him.
I snort.“Samuel, you should know me better than that, I killed the men.The woman and children were fine.My men had buses waiting to escort them home.”
“And Luna Brielle? Is she not a woman?”he demands.
“That was no woman, but a monster.Don’t act like she is innocent.I got rid of a parasite, a leech of society.Although I am glad Elder Eric sent you, saves me having to hunt you down myself,” I tell him, and Kyrio closes the door behind him.
“Excuse me?”he snaps.
“You won’t be excused this time, Samuel.Trinity told me how she found checks made out to you and a few other council members from her father.”
“Trinity is dead!”
“Not by my hand she isn’t, her father’s, yes. But–” I open my desk drawer, pulling out the paperwork.I grab the manila folder and remove the contents, photocopies upon photocopies of checks and bank deposits made out to the council members and Samuel.I drop them on the desk in front of him.“Explain those,” I tell him, my fingers itching to rip the man apart.
“So who was it that told her father Trinity that came tome? When I presented this to the council, it was supposed to be in privacy and now look at this mess.”
“No one, but the council, sent me here to try to make sure you don’t do anything drastic. But it looks like you don’t listen too well.We told you we were investigating the attack,” he sneers, his eyes darting around nervously as if he is looking for some way out of this mess.
