“Have a drink. The green ones are sweet and delicious. The blue ones are sour and fresh. I made us some snacks.”

“Is it something you learned in that cooking class you and Star are doing together?” I asked because some of their attempts at creating Eidron food had been catastrophic, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to expose myself to more of that kind.

“No, I’m trying to recreate a recipe from Earth with Eidron ingredients. I’m excited to see how it turns out.”

Angie disappeared inside just as Tania came walking toward us. She had been out running and was sweaty.

“What’s wrong?” she asked after a short glance at Nerix but then she followed his gaze to Star walking next to Limak and sighed. “Ahh… I see.”

“You have to warn her against him,” Nerix told her.

“I doubt that would make a difference since you already warned her several times.”

Angie returned with a basket full of something that smelled amazing.

“Are those muffins?” Tania asked.

“I hope so. Sweetie, you look sweaty. I got you something cold to drink. It’s right there,” Angie told Tania and nodded to the bowl with drinks on the table.

“Angie, you and Star seem to have bonded closely ever since you got here. Can’t you talk to her about keeping her distance from Limak?” Nerix asked her.

Tania smiled. “Yes, you really have bonded. It’s wonderful because I don’t think Star ever had a maternal figure in her life. Seeing you two cook and talk is lovely.”

Angie held out the plate with muffins. “I’m just happy to be of use and Star is so insecure about many things. She needs a bit of guidance.”

“Selected guidance.” Nerix growled low and stared in the direction of the garden.

Angie handed him a muffin. “Here, try one. Maybe it can cheer you up.”

I took one as well and for once it wasn’t awful.

“Hmm… not as sweet as I had hoped, but the texture is close,” Angie said.

Tania leaned in and took a bit of mine. Licking her lips, she swallowed the piece and complimented her mom. “Not bad. It’s got a bit of chocolate and caramel to it.”

“Yes, and the best part is that all the ingredients in these ones are highly nutritious and healthy.”

“Then feel free to make them every day. I’m a fan.”

“Don’t you think they should be sweeter though?” Angie asked.

Tania planted a quick kiss on her mother’s cheek. “They are perfect if you ask me. I’m off to take a shower.”

Putting down the muffin, I came up with an excuse. “I have a bit of work that needs my attention.”

Angie and Nerix gave me a glance that told me they knew exactly what kind of work I was talking about but none of them said a word.

Following Tania to our home, I helped her undress while kissing her. She pulled me into the water and grinned when I complained that I just put on this outfit.

“Then let me help you take it off,” she said and pulled off my clothes one piece at a time.

“You don’t understand how happy you make me,” I whispered into her ear.

“Is it worth all the rumors?” she asked with a seductive smile.

Before she went out running, I had told her about the rumors I had heard about our strange family of hybrids with bodyguards and a full human.

“I honestly think your mother needs a bodyguard more than Star. The interest in meeting her in person is enormous. I told her and you know what she said?”
