“It won’t make a difference if I do. I’ve met plenty of men like him and they do nothing for me.”

“Are you sure?” Victor’s brow was furrowed.

“Yes.” Sensing his uncertainty, I gestured for him to come with me. Walking from the park and into the mansion, I steered him into a nook and made sure no one was around before I pulled him close and got up on my toes. “If I wanted a big strong Nman I would have married one already. I’ve been in love with you for almost half my life. I’m not meeting up with that man Mason talked about. We’re sticking to the plan.”

“You have to be a hundred percent sure.”

“I am. But are you?”

Victor wrapped his arms around my waist. “I could tell you didn’t like it when I talked about my confusion with partnerships, but I hope you noticed that I used past tense. These past months with you have shown me something I could never fathom on a theoretical level. You’ve turned my world upside down. At this point, all I know for certain is that I don’t want to lose what we have.”

I answered him with a kiss and poured all my gratitude into our embrace.

Victor must have needed the contact as much as I did because he lifted me from the ground and kissed me like a thirsty man drinking water.

It felt like an automatic response that my body wanted him with desperation. Seeing my brother marrying the love of his life had brought up strong feelings in me of wanting and longing for the same.

Hiding in the nook, Victor and I were lost in each other. Kissing and touching, he was pressing me against the wall and lifting my right thigh to his hip to get between my legs. All I could think about was my desire for Victor and how much I loved him.

He whispered something in French, but the lovely moment came to a shrieking halt when a sharp order cut through our hazed minds. “Get away from her!”

Before I had a chance to react, a guard tore Victor out of my embrace and threw him to the floor with brutal force.

I was so shocked that it took me a moment to react and give a direct order. “Get off him.”

The guard ignored me and was preventing Victor from getting up while reporting what he had witnessed over a communication system: “I just caught the French man in the process of raping Freya Aurelius.”

Despite my trying to push him off Victor, more guards came to the scene followed by Solomon, who was the commander and highest in rank after Khan and Magni.

Despite my protests and desperation for the guard to release Victor he kept pressing him down with a knee between his shoulder blades.

Solomon was even taller than his father Magni and towered above me when I appealed to him. “They won’t listen to me. Tell them to let Victor go.”

“What’s going on? Where’s my daughter?”

My father’s voice cut through the night and with my heart beating fast in my chest, I shook my head. “No no no.”

The guard kept in place as a crowd gathered and my father moved closer, reaching out for me.

“I was patrolling the area when I heard suspicious sounds. When I went to investigate, I found the French weasel raping Freya in a dark corner.”

“He didn’t rape me,” I screamed at the guard.

My father thundered, “Don’t cover for him, Freya. You always had a soft heart and don’t want to see anyone hurt, but for Victor to touch you is unforgivable.”

“I gave him consent. I’ve given him all my consent. We’re together.”

“Together? What the hell are you talking about?” With a grimace of confusion, my brother came to stand on my other side.

“Victor and I are a couple.”

Thor paled. “That’s not possible. You and Victor hate each other.”

“I never hated him. You did!”

“But you two are always fighting.”

With tears in my eyes, I shouted at Thor, “That’s because it was the next best thing to loving him.”
