“I’m sorry, Zola, I didn’t mean to embarrass you,” I said but she was already leaving.

Thor took her seat next to me as Victor rocked back on his heels and crossed his arms. “When was this?”

Thor answered in a flat tone, “When was what?”

“Your rejection of Zola?”

“Hmm… the first time was last year when we shared a cabin at the summit. She asked me again this year at the arrival dinner.”

“What’s wrong with our women?”

“Nothing.”

“Then why did you reject her?”

Freya’s tone was full of annoyance. “Did it ever occur to you that some people aren’t interested in random hook-ups? Thor and I were both raised to wait until marriage. We want our first time to be with someone special.”

Victor raised his brow. “Thor, is that true? Are you saving yourself for marriage like your sister?”

It was clear that Victor found the idea laughable, but Thor straightened in his seat. “I am.”

I felt my pulse speed up. Thor had rejected Zola but proposed to me. Our gazes met and I suddenly felt warm all over.

“What about you, Linea? You’re not as silly as that, are you?”

I didn’t respond to Victor’s questions because my energy was entangled with Thor’s and all I could think about was his proposal today.

“Linea.”

“Huh?” I turned to see Victor look at me but before I could ask him to repeat his question, he held up a hand and muttered:

“Pardon,I need to take this call.”

He pressed an ear device that was so small I hadn’t noticed it before and then he answered sharply in French.

It was clear from his reddening color that Victor didn’t like the information he was receiving.

When he finished with a few hard words, Thor instantly asked him. “What was that about?”

“It’s one of your Explorers. He’s knocking down the door to a woman’s house in sector four.”

“What?” Thor flew up from the couch. “Who is this fool?”

“I don’t have his name, but I have to go and sort this out. The Explorers are my responsibility.”

“Let’s go!” Thor turned to Freya. “Get Mason and Indiana. We’ll show this fucker not to betray our trust.”

“No!” Victor cut through with authority. “I will allow no violence from this Explorer or any of you.”

“No violence is needed,” I said and stood up. “It sounds like a lovesick Northlander and I’m sure I can reason with him. I’ll go with Victor and sort this out. You two should stay and enjoy the party.”

Freya and Thor wouldn’t hear of it and in the end, the four of us went together.

We were silent as we walked at a fast pace from the Blue Tower to the apartments at the second subterranean level where the woman lived. It took us less than ten minutes. Once there, Victor pushed through a crowd of people with us on his heels.

A large Nman stood in front of a blue door, banging his fist on it and shouting.

Victor showed no fear when he strode right to him and addressed him in French.
