“I would say it’s my pleasure, but that would be a lie. I only helped your sister to make her stop pestering me.”

“And for your trouble you now have a wedding invitation. Not bad. It will no doubt be the biggest experience in your shallow life,” I teased.

“I shall enjoy it as much as watching an animal program with fascinating mating rituals. Did you know some males in different species face certain death to breed their females? Do you think enslavement in a marriage contract counts as slow suicide?”

My sister sighed. “Remember what I told you, Thor? Just subtract the irony, sarcasm, and every word Victor said. It works for me. We’ve got to go now, but I love you and I’m over-the-moon happy that you found love.”

“Thank you for calling us, Freya. We love you too,” Linea said and waved at the screen.

Freya waved back and gave an air kiss before my screen turned black again.

“I like Victor,” Linea stated. It made me gape at her.

“You can’t be serious.”

“He’s funny.”

“Offensive isn’t funny.”

“He’s offensive because it amuses him to get a strong reaction from you. Victor is intelligent.”

“Yeah, yeah, so he and every French person tell us all the fucking time.”

“Wait, are you jealous because I said that I like him?”

“I guess it makes me think of what you said that day back in the Motherlands.”

“What did I say?”

“That I wasn’t on your top ten list of attractive Nmen. You still haven’t told me who was on that list.”

With a soft smile, Linea gave an order to the drone asking to have four of the seats converted into a flat position.

I watched her with curiosity. She was up to something and I was all for it. It took no more than her playful smile to harden me below the waist.

She gestured for me to join her. “That day in the Motherlands, I was annoyed with you. The truth is that I’ve met handsome Nmen, but none of them ever tempted me the way you do. How about you let me show you whom I desire?”

I stripped out of my clothes with eager movements and despite our night of lovemaking, I indulged in her luscious body as if it was our first time together.

For every minute I spent with Linea I was falling deeper in love. I couldn’t get enough of the sweet sound of her laughter or the way her eyes could have a thousand different expressions depending on her mood. When she smiled her eyes smiled with her. When she listened, her focus made me feel seen and understood. When we played around, she watched me with a ferocious hunger like she could never get enough of being close to me.

Linea was like a treasure chest with a thousand different valuables in one.

We lay naked and closely wrapped up for a long while after our lovemaking had ended. The conversation flowed effortlessly between us as we made plans for our future and realized that despite our differences, we wanted many of the same things.

By the time we reached the border, we were back in our clothes and once the drone flew over the Gray Mansion, we spotted a large group of people in the garden.

“I see the Boulder family,” Linea said and pressed her forehead against the window to see better. “And the Rex family… see, there’s Kaya and Sparrow waving at us.” It was sweet how Linea waved back even though no one would see it from the ground.

Rubbing her back, I smiled. “I guess they all want to congratulate us at once.”

Linea and I exchanged a warm smile and I felt like a boy again with the amount of joy running through me. For so long I had felt angry and misunderstood. And then she walked into my life, looked through my façade, and still found me lovable.

“I’m nervous,” she muttered and squeezed my hand.

“Don’t be. Everyone will love you. How could they not?”

Her lips disappeared as she looked down again. “It’s strange for me.”
