Rose was easy to look after since she slept peacefully for the first two hours.
She looked so cute that I shot a picture and sent it to Atlas, who was in Athens on a business trip.
He called me up five minutes later.
“Hey.”
“How is Athens?”
“Fine. How is the Irish countryside?”
“Prettier than ever, now that Rose is here.”
His voice softened as if he was smiling through the phone. “She has her looks from her mum.”
“Definitely.”
“It was nice of you and Fleur to invite Jolene. I feel bad about leaving her for my trips even though she says that she understands.”
“Of course, we’re always happy when someone makes the long drive to come and see us. Fleur and Jolene talk like they’ve known each other for years and Fleur is obsessed about your daughter.”
“Me too.” Atlas chuckled. “By the way, could you tell my beautiful wife to call me? I want to say goodnight to her but she’s not picking up her phone.”
“She’s not here. Fleur took her to a pub in Limerick with the others.”
“What others?”
“Patrick, Kate, Nellie, and Nils. They all work here. I stayed behind to watch Rose.”
“Seriously?”
“Your wife said that she missed a fun night out.”
Atlas groaned.
“What?”
“My wife almost died and I’m fucking protective of her. I don’t like the idea of her being around drunk men without me there to step in if someone gets too close.”
“Nothing is going to happen.” I was already struggling with my own emotions and didn’t need him to put thoughts into my head.
“When was the last time you went to a Limerick pub? Have you seen our women; they’re fucking gorgeous and men are going to be all over them.”
My head turned when I heard a car door slam outside. “Wait, I think they just came back. I’ll let you talk to Jolene.”
Opening the door, I walked out of the house to see Kate supporting Nils from the car.
“What happened?”
“He was foolish enough to participate in a drinking contest and it didn’t go well.”
“Is it Jolene and Fleur?” Atlas asked on the phone.
