“River talks too much.” Maximum leaned forward and adjusted the firewood on the campfire we’d made. Two of the lions had moved closer and lay on the other side of the fire, sleeping again.
“Is she wrong?”
“No. I’ve been rootless and unable to find any woman who piqued my interest for more than casual sex, but you’re different, Fleur.” Leaning back in his chair, he took my hand again and brought it up to kiss.
“Aren’t you scared that I’ll exploit you to get a child? You have money and could pay child support.”
Maximum stared at the fire. “I have a feeling that if you were that low a person, you would have found a victim already.”
My shoulders relaxed a little. “You’re right. I couldn’t do that.”
“What if you stopped thinking so much about it?” Maximum suggested. “Why not just take one day at a time and see what happens?”
When I didn’t answer, he pulled me over in his lap and closed his arms around me. “Just answer me honestly; do you want to have sex with me again?”
Leaning my head against his, I whispered. “Yes.”
“Then how about we start there?”
