Freya swallowed hard. “Are you saying that Thor is suicidal?”
Linea just looked into her eyes. “I sense where he is, but I won’t tell you. Thor needs this.”
“But he’s safe?”
“He wasn’t kidnapped by criminals if that’s what you mean.”
“When will he come back?”
Linea sighed. “That I can’t tell you. I doubt he even knows that himself.”
“My father will never believe that Thor chose to leave. He’ll need proof that he’s all right.”
“I’m sorry.” Linea pushed up from the floor. “I’m not telling him where Thor is because it’s clear to me that Thor left by choice.”
“Then how about…” Freya got up as well and reached for Linea’s hand. “Could you go and find him? All we need is a vid of Thor telling us that he’s safe and choosing this himself. He can’t possibly be so selfish as to keep us in the dark. Not after he saw how affected everyone was by Sparrow’s disappearance.”
Linea gave Freya a sad smile. “Tomorrow, I’m vetting the last of the Explorer recruits. After I’m done, I’ll do a last healing session on Sparrow. If Thor hasn’t given a sign of life by then, I’ll go to him and get it for you.”
Freya hugged Linea tight. “Thank you so much.” As soon as she released Linea, she ran for the door. “I’ll tell the others.”
When I moved to the exit as well, I looked over my shoulder and saw that Linea hadn’t moved. “Are you coming?”
“I’ll stay here a little while longer. It helps me connect to Thor’s energy and I might be able to send him a subtle nudge that he needs to call home.”
“Knowing how stubborn that man is, he’ll need more than a subtle nudge,” I said. “Not even a solid kick in his butt could get Thor to do something he doesn’t want to do.”
“Hmm. I’ll see how hard I can kick him from here.”
With my hand on the door handle, I asked her another question. “Does it bother you that people like Khan don’t believe in your abilities?”
Linea pushed back her long red hair. “I understand that it’s hard for people to believe what they can’t see with their own eyes. I compare it to lenses on cameras. When you take a picture, it gives you a visual of what is in front of you. With a better lens your image will reveal more details that you never could have seen with your naked eye. To believe in the energy work that I do requires a humbleness to acknowledge that just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not real. Take the red tones of infrared light, for instance. If we had the right camera, I could show you infrared light emitted from our bodies, but without that camera it’s difficult to prove.”
The last part of her answer sounded distracted as she walked to the bed and lifted the mattress. I stayed long enough to see her pull out papers with colors and shapes on them.
“What is that?” I asked.
Linea didn’t turn when she answered. “Drawings. Good ones.”
“Did Thor make them?”
“Yes.”
“How do you know?”
Linea looked over her shoulder with an arched eyebrow. “Who else would hide drawings under his mattress?”
“Maybe someone who had this room before Thor.”
She turned back to pull out more of the drawings. “No, these belong to Thor. His residual energy led me to them.”
“You’re amazing, Linea. I hope you know that.”
She didn’t answer me and seemed lost in the drawings, so I closed the door to Thor’s room and walked back down to the others.
The atmosphere was still a bit tense, but there were groups talking among themselves instead of one collective meeting.
“What did I miss?” I asked my mom and shot a quick smile to Banni, who was talking to Belle and Mason across the room.
