“How about tonight? You’re leaving soon, and I want to spend as much time with you as possible.”
“Why?” she said in a soft voice that made me take both her hands and lean my forehead against hers.
“Because I’m head over heels in love with you.”
River kept smiling. “I think I’m falling in love with you too.”
“Then how about you let me sleep in your bed tonight?”
I felt River tense up.
“No sex. I promise. Only kissing and cuddling.”
She swallowed. “Not tonight. Give me time to think about it.”
I had pushed, and she had set a boundary. There was nothing to do but be respectful even though it sucked. “OK.” I gave her one more kiss before letting go of her. “I’ll text you before I go to sleep.”
“I’d like that. You always find the best gifs.”
“Must be a Viking talent,” I joked and walked away with a bounce in my step.
