“Bye.”

“Bye.”

There was a silent pause as if we were both waiting for the other to hang up but then I panicked and pressed end. Lowering my phone, I covered my eyes with my hand. “What did I do?”

On a rational level, it made no sense that I would go into a remote forest with a man who just admitted to me that he’d killed a man and put another in the hospital for weeks. But this was Nathan, and whenever I was close to him, everything just felt a little better. Maybe my healer was right when she said all humans vibrate on an energy level and that whenever it feels easy with someone, it’s because we share the same frequency of energy.

“Call up Whitney.” I told my phone with a glance at the time. It would be close to noon in LA.

“Hey, Star, are you ready to come home? I’ve waited for your call. There are two commercial flights to LA tomorrow, depending on what time you prefer, or I could book you a private plane if you want to avoid the attention.”

“Darling, you’re sweet, but I don’t need you to book me a flight to LA. There’s something else I need, though, and it’s a bit of a challenge, so hear me out.”
