CHAPTER 16
The Hike
Chloe
“Are you sure you can let him run off-leash?” Faith asked me when Max and I joined her on the parking lot by the forest.
I shrugged. “Max isn’t used to being on a leash, he’ll be fine.” I gave her a hug, zipped my jacket, and pulled the collar up. “Geez, it’s cold today. Whose idea was this again?”
“Yours, and it’s healthy – so come on.” Faith gave me a smile and pointed ahead. “We’re going that way and it’s all uphill, so you’ll be warm in three minutes.”
“At least there’s hardly any people,” I said, trying to cheer myself up.”
“And the view from the top is beautiful,” Faith added in her eternal always-look-at-the-bright-side attitude.
“I don’t know about that… it’s kinda cloudy, don’t you think?”
“We’ll see.” She started walking. “So tell me what’s going on between you and Adam.”
“What do you mean?” I was a little surprised at how quickly Faith cut to the chase.
“Sweetie, I’m your twin and yesterday at the party, I saw how you flirted with Andrew and Derek but constantly had an eye on Adam. Besides, he took you home because your ankle was hurt – and yet here we are, about to hike a mountain, and I’ve heard nothing of ankle pains holding you back.”
“Okay, you got me,” I admitted. “I like Adam and we hooked up last night.”
“I don’t blame you. He certainly gets a girl’s attention.”
My head whipped to her. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“That you would have to be blind not to find him attractive.”
“But you have Logan.”
Faith stopped. “I’m not interested in Adam, if that’s what you’re afraid of.”
“And are you serious about Logan?” I asked with a frown.
“Absolutely. He’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“Yeah, but how serious, Faith? Adam thinks that Logan might…” I trailed off.
“What?”
I started walking again. “Adam mentioned that Andrew had hinted that Logan might propose to you.”
She stopped and smiled at me. “He already did.”
Her answer shocked me and I turned to grab her hand. “What did you say?”
She broke into a joyous shriek. “In the plane back to Seattle, he said he wanted to marry me.”
“Did you say yes?”
“I did.”
“Whaaat?” I shrieked with her and we stood like two giggling teenagers, holding hands and beaming with large goofy grins.
“Logan makes me happy and the sex is…” She sighed with happiness.
