I creased my brows because it annoyed me that she made it sound so simple. “I get that I’m the one with the problem here, but just for the record, I don’t remember you ever swimming in money either.”

“You’re right.” Violet smiled at me. “I have my own battle with wealth. For me it’s still hard to ask for money for my work. I don’t resent people with money, but I feel unworthy asking to be paid for something I’ve been ashamed of my whole childhood.”

“But if you know it, can’t you change it?”

Violet laughed. “I’m trying, but you know it doesn’t work like that. I could put you in a mansion and you would still feel like the boy who grew up in a trailer. Our minds are powerful that way.”

I thought about it. “You’re right, I can’t imagine myself being a millionaire. It would feel like hoarding money for myself.”

“You wouldn’t be that kind of millionaire, Adam,” Violet said softly. “Haven’t you noticed that the more money some of the billionaires are giving away the more they seem to get? The energetic flow rewards them for feeling abundant, I think.”

“So you say I shouldn’t resist money but do good with it?”

“Yes. I think you and Chloe would make a great team, and you underestimate her if you think she cares about how much money you have. If she did, she really wouldn’t be the right woman for you anyway, would she?”

“I guess not.”

Violet leaned back in her chair with a satisfied smile. “So how do you feel now?”

“Better. Much better, actually.”

“Good. It would be a shame to lose Chloe because you don’t feel worthy of having money in your life.”

I nodded.

“Especially because sheisseriously in love with you.”

“You’re sure?”

Violet tilted her head with humor in her eyes. “Yes, I’m sure. I’ve got a really good intuition.”

I was on my way back to Chloe’s place when I got the first call from a reporter.

“How did you get my number?” I asked but got no answer. Instead the man kept asking me questions, so I hung up.

Then text messages began popping in from my friends, who were talking about seeing me on E! News with Cleo.

I tried calling Chloe but she didn’t answer, and I figured her signal might not be strong if she was out hiking in the mountains with Faith.

When my friend Rick called, I answered.

“What the hell, man?” he chuckled. “How come I’m learning about you and Cleo from my sister?”

“What did she say?” I asked, exasperated.

“You know she watches all that YouTube gossip stuff, and she just called me almost in hysterics saying that she saw you and Cleo filmed together.”

“You know I’ve been with her because of the deal Onava made.”

“So you didn’t go to a New Year’s party with her and take her out for brunch the next morning?”

“Yes, but…” I trailed off.

“Just tell me one thing. Did you do her?”

I took a deep breath. “Rick… look, man, it’s complicated.”
