“It’s hardly being bilingual when the official language in both Scotland and America is English, is it?” Faith argued.

I turned my head to see Darren blinking at me. While I wasn’t looking he had changed seats with Melody and was now sitting next to me.

“Hello,Adorable Adam,” Darren said and slid his finger around the rim of his wineglass. “You know, if I’d known we would be honored with your presence I would have worn my Native-inspired outfit.”

“You do me honor,” I said and turned from his direct glance.

He moved closer, resting his head in his hand with his elbow on the table. “Oh, I would do you any day.”

“Excuse me?”

“Do you honor,” he corrected himself.

“Look,” I lowered my voice. “If you’re trying to come on to me, I might as well tell you that I’m not gay.”

“Ahh.” He shook a finger and smacked his tongue. “Didn’t your mom ever teach you to taste before you say you don’t like something?”

“I don’t need to taste anything to know I’m not gay,” I whispered.

“Tell you what,” Darren said and tilted his head with a charming smile. “Let’s make a bet. If I win, I get to kiss you. If you win, you get to kiss me.”

I shook my head with mild laughter.

“What? It’s a good deal. I’m a really good kisser.” Darren said flirtatiously.

“I’m sure you are, but what if I have a girlfriend?”

“I have a pet goldfish,” he said out of the blue.

“What?”

“Oh, I thought we were talking about things that didn’t matter.”

I looked at him for a moment, not sure how to handle his advances. Women had been hitting on me since I was a teen, but never had I met someone like Darren.

“Relax.” He leaned back. “I’ll give you time to think about it and admit to yourself that you’ve always been a tiny bit curious to know what it would feel like to be with a man.”

My brows creased closely together.

“No one has to know. Not even your girlfriend.” He glanced over at Chloe.

I was just about to say, “She’s not my girlfriend,” when Chloe, the Scots, Faith, and Gabriel all broke out in a loud fit of laughter.

“Ooh, you might wanna keep an eye on her, because those Highlanders are ready to strike,” Darren warned and got up.

Whatever was going on at that end of the table, Chloe was in a good spot. Not even all her make-up could hide that her eyes were bright with joy and her energy was vibrating at a high frequency. There was a slight moment of pride when my vanity whispered that it was my energy healing that had made her stronger, but my self-deceit only lasted a few moments until I admitted that it was the two Scotsmen and their admiration of her that had brought about this change.

Chloe had a perfect smile with white straight teeth. Her hair was voluminous and her features symmetrical and pretty. She was the woman other women wanted to look like, and the woman men longed to be with. And right at this moment I couldn’t hold it against them. She was radiant, and my body reacted to her flirtatious energy although it wasn’t directed at me, but instead at the two Highlanders.

“Adam.” Violet came to my side and took a seat. “It’s been far too long. How are you?”

“Good.” I told her about my work and how I was trying to help Chloe. She let me talk but I sensed something wasn’t right. “What’s wrong, Violet?”

“Won’t you join me while we wait for the dessert?” she asked and we quietly got up and walked over to the corner by a lovely rounded window bench.

“What is it?” I asked her again.

“Adam, I’ve seen your future.”
