I felt vulnerable without my bodyguards and realized how stupid it had been to think I could walk around this ferry without any sort of security with me.

If only Adam wasn’t such a narrow-minded idiot I wouldn’t be in this situation.

When I got back to the truck he was already there and insisting on driving. I gave in quickly because I had spotted Niko’s fan following me down to the car deck and I wanted to avoid her.

Every instinct was to get home and lock the door and not leave until I had called in my security team.

“Is something wrong?” Adam asked, but I wasn’t going to involve him; the humiliation of his rejecting me was still too raw.

Just to be sure the crazy fan wasn’t following me, I told him to take detours and when he finally stopped the car I hurried out and headed straight for my building.

I was almost at the door when it all went to hell.
