Adam frowned and moved closer to me on the bed, one leg bent in front of him and one still on the floor. “But what would his role be?”
“My husband. My partner… whatever you want to call it.”
“But whomever you choose will be pushed in the background whenever you meet a fan who wants a selfie with you. And he would be forced to go with you to those stupid red carpet things. What if he doesn’t want to?” Adam asked as if he were playing the devil’s advocate.
“Then I’ll take my sister, or a friend. What matters is the bond between us and the fact that I can come home and feelloved.”
“And what happens when you go away to make films and have to do love scenes with attractive men? How do you think your partner will feel about that?”
I stared at him, wondering where all these questions were coming from. “Hopefully he’ll know that he’s my number one and that my heart belongs to him. I’m very loyal, remember.”
“But you’ve cheated in the past.”
“Not nearly as many times as the press says, and remember that I wasn’t happy with Niko.”
He folded his arms in front of him. “You truly think there’s a man out there who would trust you enough to let you fly around the world without coming with you?”
“Yes, just like I would trust him when I go away.”
“Yeah, but what if he wants children? Does your schedule even allow for a family?”
“Of course it does. I’ll make it a priority when I find the right man.” My eyes were going to his lips and we were close, with an energetic pulsation vibrating between us. “If I found someone who was emotionally intelligent and loyal to me, I would be truly happy.”
“But what if…” Adams eyes lowered to my lips and I got the feeling he was fighting his desire to kiss me.
I waited for him to continue and when he didn’t I cleared my throat. “Adam?”
“Yes?” His eyes flicked back up to meet mine. His voice was raw.
“Do you ever wonder what it would be like between us?”
He didn’t answer but pulled in a deep breath and made fists of his hands in the sheet.
I swallowed hard, forcing the words out. “I wonder what it would be like if we had sex.”
He closed his eyes, pressing his lips together, but I had already made myself vulnerable to his rejection and moved closer.
“We’re both adults. I’m single. Are you single?”
Again he didn’t answer except for a low grunt.
“Are you?” I asked again and moved nose to nose. “Adam, open your eyes,” I coaxed.
His beautiful obsidian eyes were full of golden specks when he opened his eyes.
“We shouldn’t,” he whispered and it was tempting to press a kiss to his lips, but I wanted him to go first.
“Chloe.” His hand found mine and his chest rose in a series of shallow breaths. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Then don’t.”
He blinked and licked his lips. “Are you sure you want this?” Grabbing the back of my head, he wove his fingers into my hair.
“Are you?” I breathed.
“My body and mind disagree when it comes to you.”
“What do you mean?”
