“Then I’ll help you. Just don’t whine about my methods, okay?”

“I’m not a whiner.”

He looked skeptical. “I’m not sure I believe you. Today you wanted to run back to Seattle when things didn’t go as you hoped.”

A fire was flaring up in my belly.I am many things, but never a quitter. I’ll show your arrogant ass how tough I can be,I thought. Maybe I hadn’t been very good at setting my personal boundaries with Niko and others in the past, but so help me God, I would pull out every piece of resistance I had inside of me and show him I was more than a pretty movie star.

With my head held high I said, “I won’t run. I’ll just kick your ass if you’re being a jerk to me.”

“Ha – don’t hurt yourself, please.”

“You obviously didn’t see me play Cassandra.” I was provoked by his smug smile.

“No, who’s she?”

“A female soldier on a space mission. I had to train with martial arts experts for months prior to that role.”

His smile grew into a slow grin. “You’re delusional if you think you could take me in a fight.”

“I could kick your ass if I wanted to.”

The flames from the fireplace lit up his face and he looked highly entertained when he stepped closer to me.

“You’re on, Chloe. Do you want me to prove my physical superiority before or after dinner?”

“Your physical superiority,” I mocked. “And people callmea diva. Geez, you’re so full of yourself I can’t believe your pompous airhead hasn’t floated off like a balloon.”

I was over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes before I understood what happened. He simply bent down and picked me up without warning and despite my screaming and kicking him, he chuckled when he threw me on the bed.

I was furious and humiliated. Especially when he crossed his arms and mocked me. “Are you ready to admit that you’re just a weak woman compared to me?”

“No,” I screamed at him.

He shrugged. “You’re like a sassy child, and I can see why people call you a diva. To think you could take me in a fight. Ha, it’s ridiculous.” He turned his back on me and was about to move away, when I got up and flew at him like a pissed-off squirrel.

“It’s not funny,” I screamed and used every dirty trick I could think off. I wanted to bend back his finger like Cassandra had done to the mutant in one of the movie scenes. She had effortlessly made the large male sink to his knees and beg for mercy. I wanted Adam to beg for mercy too.

But he moved and spun, making it hard to get a firm grip on him. And to make it worse he was laughing loudly, as if I were a small child tickling him.

Mind clouded with rage, I kicked him in his chin as hard as I could.

“Ouch, what the fuck did you do that for?” he yelled.

“To wipe that stupid grin off your face. I told you I could kick your ass if I wanted to,” I sneered with my blood pumping and my pride at stake.

“You shouldn’t have done that, little diva.”

“I’m not a diva,” I shouted and circled him like a hungry wolf. “You know what the martial arts expert taught me?”

“To kick men’s chins?” he said and circled with me.

“That the bigger the opponent, the harder he falls.”

“They should have taught you something else.”

“What?” I said through gritted teeth.

He came at me so fast I didn’t have time to do anything but scream before he had me down on my back. Adam was on top of me, sitting astride my hips and pinning my wrists next to my head. I was panting while kicking with my legs and bucking to no avail. He was bigger and stronger, and when I finally took a break from fighting him, he leaned down and whispered in my ear. “They should have told you to stop provoking your opponent, and never let him get on top of you.”
