Darren’s head whipped in her direction. “Oh, I’m always absolutely serious. Especially when I say that you’re my favorite redhead in the whole world and I think you have the best sense of humor and the cutest personality in all of Seattle.”
“Hey, you two,” Violet spoke to Melody and Darren like a mom to her kids. “You promised to be nice to each other.”
“Violet, my purple flower, we are beingsupernice,” Darren lisped with exaggeration and batted his eyelashes innocently. “Didn’t you hear me praise Melody just now?”
Melody kept a straight face and backed him up. “Yeah, Darren and I arefine. He just admitted his undying admiration for me,” Melody said with a sugar-coated smile.
“And Melody was just about to admit that I’m one of her favorite people of all time,” Darren said and pointed a finger back and forth between him and Melody. “See, Violet, it’s like your psychic abilities are rubbing off on me. Melody doesn’t even have to say it out loud. I just know she loves me.”
“Darren was just telling us how he puts wine in his water bottle when he runs,” I told Violet.
“Really?” Violet gave him a knowing smile. “That would concern me if I didn’t know that you’re too much of a wine snob to drink from anything but a proper wineglass.”
“Snob? Who, me?” Darren lifted the wine bottle he was holding in his hand. “Violet, sweetie, have another glass – I’ve told you two or three glasses a day is healthy.”
“Oh, I’ve heard that too,” I said. “It’s because of the antioxidants, isn’t it?”
Darren grinned. “Yup, but most of all it’s because it significantly reduces your risk of giving a shit.”
Faith leaned in and got my attention. “Can I have my dress back?”
“Right now?” I asked and kept my eyes on Darren, Violet, and Melody and their friendly banter.
“We should change before Logan and I go home. You don’t want headlines saying you were seen making out with Logan, do you?
That got my full attention. “Good thinking, sis.”
“Darren, may we use your back room to swap clothes?” I asked.
He nodded and we got to it.
“So what happened with that investor you wanted to impress?” I asked her.
“It was fine. I’m ninety-nine percent sure that he’s in, but I don’t want to talk about him. I want to know what happened between you and Adam.”
As I unzipped the black dress she was wearing I filled her in. “He knew from the beginning that I was me, but he let me think that he didn’t and wouldn’t be persuaded that I was not you but me.”
“So what did you do?”
“Well, in the end I straddled him and kissed him and then one thing led to the other.”
“Does that mean you’re back together?” Faith wanted to know.
I gave a happy giggle. “We are.”
“Good, I figured that, with the way his truck was moving and the way you two are looking at each other. So what are you going to do about Liam?”
“I’m afraid I’m going to have to break his heart.” I shrugged. “No, seriously, he’s a nice guy and he’ll find someone else to cover for his real lover.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“There’s rumors.”
“There’s always rumors in Hollywood,” Faith pointed out.
“True, but my stylist, Michael, saw Liam with a guy who’s at least ten years older than him.”
“Are you saying he’s gay?”
