Archer shook his head. “No, I wasn’t,” he repeated. “I was actually getting ready to ask you on a date, as a matter of fact.”
“Well, I’ll let you guys get to it, then,” Lily chuckled. “Daniel’s waiting for me at home.” The traitor winked at me. “Call me later with all the details.”
“There won’t be any details to tell,” I assured her.
“She’s lying,” Archer chimed in, and Lily just shook her head as she laughed and went on her way. And that was bullshit if you asked me. What kind of best friend left you alone with a sexy god?
With Lily no longer a distraction, the silence got awkward rather quickly. When I couldn’t stand it any longer, I looked up at Archer to bid him farewell, and the asshole was smirking down at me.
“This isn’t funny,” I informed him coolly.
His smirk morphed into a full-blown grin and it really was a shame he was so good-looking. “I’m not laughing,” he lied. “I just think you’re cute.”
“And that’s my cue to leave.” I turned to reach for the handle on my car door, but a pair of warm, large hands came up from behind me. And I should have been outraged that he’d take such a liberty when I found myself wrapped up in his embrace, his entire body warming my back. But instead of making a break for it, my mind started conjuring all the dangers of hypothermia. And since I didn’t want to freeze to death so close to Christmas, thus ruining the holidays for my family and friends, I sunk back in his hold. But just a little.
Archer’s breath was warm on my ear when he said, “Bentley’s Auto and Mechanics.” I closed my eyes against the temptation of knowing where to find him. “That’s where I’ll be when you’re ready to go out on that date with me.”
Though my voice sounded weak, I asked, “Are you forgetting that I just broke up with my boyfriend one week ago?”
I could hear his scoff loud and clear. “I already told you my opinion on that. If you weren’t letting him cum inside your hot little body, he wasn’t your boyfriend.”
At that, I did finally pull out of his embrace. I turned to look up at him. “I’m not going to let you mock my concern for safety,” I replied, annoyed.
His head jerked upward. “What time does the clinic close? Do you know?”
My face screwed up. “Five,” I answered. “Why?”
“How about I make you a deal?”
“No.”
“I’ll go in and get tested for everything,” he went on as if I hadn’t spoken. “Once my clean bill of health comes back, we’ll go out, you’ll find out I’m not so bad, you’ll fall madly in love with me, and then you’ll let me dirty up the hell out of you.”
My eyes bugged out. “Who in the hell says shit like that to someone they barely met? Are you insane?”
He grinned, and it looked positively wolfish. “I’ve never had sex without a condom before,” he replied, like a crazy person. “I’m looking forward to our date.”
“You can’t j-”Hold up. “Wait,” I stammered. “What happened to…to…”
He cocked a brow. “To what?”
I waved my hand all about. “All that talk about…staking your claim and whatnot.”
“I’ve never dated a woman long enough for that to be an issue,” he replied, shocking the hell out of me. “Nothing has ever gotten to the point of needing to discuss medical histories or asking for blood tests.”
My face was full of surprised. “And this has?” I asked incredulously.
His grin was back. “No,” he answered honestly. “It’s just good damn luck that I know you’re clean, therefore not needing to have that conversation.”
“You’re insane,” I whispered, certain he was.
“What I am, is about to go get some blood work done, so I can dirty you up next weekend,” he replied. “Make sure to pack a bag.”
And I just stood there, watching the psychopath head towards the clinic’s front doors.
