“Well, I can hardly go after Mason, Aiden or Gabriel, now can I?” I heard another female voice reason. “If the rumors are to be believed, those men are crazy in love with their wives.”

I heard a scoff. “So, if they weren’t, they’d be fair game?”

“You make it sound as if trying to land a rich, good looking man is the worst thing a girl could do.”

I heard a sigh. “It’s not,” the first voice replied. “I just think that going after Michael Buchanan just because he’s the last available Buchanan is rather cold.”

Cold and rather presumptuous. This girl is automatically thinking she’s my type?

The second voice giggled. “You want to hear about cold? I gave Sophia Martella the Rose-McCurry file today and told her it was due Monday.”

I heard a gasp. “Are you insane? Why would you wait until today to give her that file?”

The second voice, full of snark, said, “Oh, boo-hoo. I’m sure it’s no big deal for a genius such as herself.”

“What about the party tonight? All employees are to attend.”

 Exactly.

Voice #2 was full of malice and I was starting to feel irritated. “I already sent a notice to HR that due to her lack of initiative, she was behind on her workload and would have to work all weekend to catch up.”

 What the fuck?

“Jesus, Katrina,” the first voice breathed out. “I don’t understand why you hate that woman so much. She’s never done a thing to you. Hell, she’s never done anything to anyone.”

“If you must know the truth, her weirdness irritates me,” Katrina-apparently-answered. “She has no idea what tact is, and she thinks she can get away with anything she says simply because her IQ is higher than anyone else’s in this building.”

“You dislike her simply because she’s smart?” Voice #1 asked incredulously.

Who dislikes someone just because they’re smart?

“There’s also the fact that she’s ugly, fat and just…ugh.”

“Well, I think she’s a sweet girl and who cares if she’s quirky,” Voice #1 replied. “I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a freakin’ genius amongst mortals.”

“Honestly, Rachel, I probably did her a favor. She has no friends and would have no one to hang out at the party with, anyway.”

What in the ever lovin’ fuck?

“You are truly unbelievable,” Rachel muttered. “You’re lucky that whatever weirdness Sophia possesses keeps her from reporting you to HR.”

“Oh, please,” Katrina scoffed. “Like HR would believe her over me. I’m her supervisor for Christ’s sake. They wouldn’t believe her over me.”

I could feel my blood heat.We had someone in power with this attitude?

“Well, speaking of being a supervisor, did it ever occur to you that Michael Buchanan being in charge of HR might put a damper on your little seduce and conquer plan?”

 “Why would it?”

“Because he’s the head of HR and you’re an employee. Duh.”

“I seriously doubt he’d be that type of hypocrite, Rachel. All three of his sisters-in-law work for Buchanan Industries,” Katrina argued.

Christ on The Cross, she better not say anything fucked up about my sisters.

“True, but Shane and Justice Buchanan were already married to Mason and Gabrielbeforethey started working here,” Rachel pointed out.

“And what about Denise Buchanan, huh?”
