“Are you insane, Michael?” I asked, because…well, it needed to be asked.
He laughed as Gabriel said, “Duh.”
“What are you doing?” I asked, not really giving much thought to the fact that there were people in the room who were not Buchanans.
“I’m showing you that the head of HR doesn’t give a fuck who knows that you’re my fiancé,” he said, his voice confident and clear as day.
People gasped and murmured around us, but I ignored our audience. “What happens if we get married and I decide to quit and spend the rest of my days lying by the pool with a cabana boy named Raul?”
Michael arched a brow. “Neither of us have a pool, but I can buy you one. However, there will be no cabana boys or even a pool boy. I’ll clean the pool my-goddamn-self,” he barked.
Aiden Buchanan busted up laughing. “That caveman look fits you, Mike.” Michael didn’t even spare him a glance as he flipped him off.
I stood on my tiptoes and wrapped my arms around Michael’s neck. I looked up at him and clarified, “I don’t need a pool, cabana boy or anything else, Michael. All I need and want is you.”
“Uh, that’s not going to work, Sophia,” Gabriel chimed in. “If you have him, you get all of us. And we’re not easy to shake.”
I started laughing and Michael leaned into my ear. “You want to see caveman, baby?”
The old Sophia would have said ‘hell, no’. The responsible Sophia would have gone on to explain how this was so inappropriate. But the new Sophia was kind of falling in love with being loved. For the first time in my life, someone lovedme.
All of me.
“Show me what you can do, Mr. Buchanan,” I teased.
“Sure,” he agreed. “But there’s one thing first.”
He stepped back and gave Aiden a quick nod. Aiden sent a quick text and everyone in the room waiting in awkward silence as nothing happened for a few minutes.
And, then, I saw them.
A man dressed in an expensive-looking suit, followed by a freakin’ priest. Like a real priest; straight from the church and everything.
My eyes shot up to Michael’s face. “Michael?”
He looked down at me and smiled. “Well, see…Aiden knows a guy…”
What happened next had everyone…well, everyone except the Buchanans, muddled. Myself included with the group of the muddled.
Suit Guy presented me with forms and documents that I signed, still a bit confounded.
Michael signed his name next to mine.
Twenty minutes, one priest, one county clerk, six Buchanans, five random employees and one Barry White song later, I was legally Sophia Buchanan.
I was freakin’ Sophia Buchanan.
And then the caveman showed up.
Chapter 24
Michael~
The second the priest pronounced us husband and wife, I had shaken his hand and thanked him, along with Thomas, the county clerk who was Aiden’s hook up, then threw Sophia over my shoulder and stormed out of that conference room with her slapping at my back, begging me to put her down.
I now understood somewhat what Aiden had been feeling when Denise had wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Not that her points weren’t valid, but there’s nothing like showing off the woman you love to the world.
My door was locked, and while this might not be an ideal wedding night or honeymoon, I couldn’t wait until we got home or went away to slide inside my wife.
