Ignoring the limp, broken body at his feet, Gabriel jumped up and growled, “Fuck that, Mike. If he dies, wekilled him.”
“No, Gabe,” I replied, strangely feeling a calm I shouldn’t be. “This is all on me.”
Aiden stood up, ignoring our father, too. “Fuck that, Michael,” he said, repeating what Gabriel said.
I looked over at Mason. “I don’t know what to do, Mase,” I confessed. “I want to kill him.Iwant to kill him. I don’t want anyone doing it for me. Ineedto kill him.”
“Go get Sophia, Gabe,” he called over his shoulder, his eyes never leaving mine. I didn’t tell him not to, either. Sophia needed to see this. She needed to see what I was capable of. And if she left me, then I would kill Harold and be done with it.
I couldn’t live without Sophia.
A few minutes later, Harold still on the floor, but conscious, Sophia came running into the room, Gabriel behind her. Her eyes scanned the room, landing on Harold for a quick couple of seconds, before she rushed over towards me.
She stopped in front of me and I could only imagine what I looked like through her eyes. Sophia grabbed my bloody hands. “Are you okay, Michael?”
I jerked my head towards my father. “He…Harold came in here saying some shit about you and the girls,” I told her honestly. “He can’t come in here and do that. No one…no one can talk shit about you to me. No one.”
She gasped and her now bloody hands flew to her mouth. She turned her head to get a really good look at my father. Mason, Aiden and Gabriel stood by silently waiting to see what she was going to do. “Is he alive?”
“Barely,” I replied. “I still want to finish the job, though.”
Sophia was quietly contemplating what to say next, and they were words I never would have expected. “Women are better planners,” she said. “Let Shane, Denise, Justice and me kill him.”
Chapter 21
Sophia~
I was sitting at my cubicle and so lost in thought, it’s a wonder my underwear wasn’t on inside out.
I was still shaken up over yesterday, but I did my best to hide it. Michael had been a mess and my main priority was to bring him back from over the edge he clearly went over.
When Gabriel had rushed into my cubicle telling me Michael needed me, I hadn’t known what to expect, but his father half-dead was not it. Looking down at his limp, broken body and seeing his sons stoically standing around, more concerned for Michael than their own father, I knew whatever had happened in that office, Michael was the one who needed saving.
And when I offered to get the girls so we could kill him for Michael that was when I knew I was in love with him. I mean, I wouldn’t kill for just anyone. And, then, things really got serious when Aiden had agreed that I had a valid point.
It was then that Michael wrapped me up in his arms and begged me to take him home. Mason had insisted that they would take care of their father and Michael would be fine. So, I took Michael home, and it was the first time I had stayed the night at his place.
It was also the scariest.
Michael had poured every emotion he was feeling into fucking me and it had been brutal. No part of my body had been left untouched and there was more pain than pleasure at some points, but I hadn’t told him to stop. I begged him for more because I loved him, and I wanted to be everything he needed.
Michael had dark, dark demons, and I wanted to sooth them as best I could. And if letting him use my body to the point of pain was the way to do it…well, that’s what I’d let him do.
My body was paying the price for it now, though.
I was still lost in thought when a shadow fell over me. I looked up to see Katrina looming over me.Great.That’s all I needed on the morning after realizing I was in love with a violent charmer. “How can I help you, Katrina?”
She arched a brow and crossed her arms. “Sophia, I don’t know who exactly you think you are, but I am not going to stand for your unprofessionalism any longer.”
I stood up because…well, becausethis bitch…“I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about, Katrina. What unprofessionalism?”
“First, leeching yourself to the Buchanans the night of the party. Then, leaving work sick, and then, abandoning your station again yesterday to run after one of the Buchanan Twins,” she snapped, clearly pissed that didn’t know which twin it was. “I don’t care what your IQ is, your behavior is unbecoming of an accounting clerk under my rule.”
We were both too busy staring each other down, that we hadn’t heard Aiden Buchanan’s approach. “What’s going on here?”
I winced. I couldn’t help it. It was one thing to be sleeping with Michael-which was inappropriate enough-but Aiden was my actual boss’ boss’ boss. I turned to look at him and I could see in his eyes that yesterday was hard on him too. Suddenly, Katrina’s fit seemed trivial and ridiculous.
“Nothing,” I answered before Katrina could. “Ms. Roth was just expressing her…displeasure at my recent…uh, failure to concentrate on my job.” I mean, Katrina was a first-rate bitch, but she wasn’t wrong. I had been distracted by Michael and his family from the second I met them.
