She went to school with the other kids and had friends and her older by ten minutes twin sister, Truth was her best friend.

Honor knew that she was living on borrowed time though and each year at the doctor’s, they were all worried that it would be the time that they dreaded.

They got the news that her heart started failing when she turned ten.

And she was in and out of the hospital until she was thirteen.

That was when she had to be in the hospital or she would die.

She had to get put on the transplant list and waited for five months until they got a call.

They let her parents know that they had a heart for her.

And Honor was terrified. She was scared she would go into surgery and have it not work.

All of the nurses loved her because she never complained or cried, just smiled at them all.

`Only when she was being wheeled away did she finally cry, but in the OR, the nurses all reassured her and she knew that she was in good hands.

Her mom kissed her head and Truth held her hand and then put her forehead to Honor’s.

“You are going to get better. And we will do all the things we want to do. Find the men we are supposed to marry and grow old together.”

Honor nodded, tears glistening in her eyes and Truth kissed her forehead and then they wheeled Honor away.

Truth walked next to her for a second and then their linked hands fell apart and Honor shut her eyes.

She could do this. She could be brave. She had to be.

When she got out of surgery, she was slow to wake, and was still groggy, but she was alive and that was what mattered.

Her parents hugged her and Truth climbed into bed beside her, very carefully and they held each other while she went back to sleep.

And over the next few weeks, she recovered and felt better than she had in a long time.

She was grateful for her second chance at life, though she knew that someone had to die because of it.

And she grieved for the person who lost their life. Who so generously gave up their heart to a stranger to save them.

And she knew in her soul that she would live her life to the fullest and not squander the gift she was given.

Honor did her best to remember that she was given a second chance and she and Truth were both grateful for that fact.

When Honor was able to go back to school again, their mom was worried, but Truth assured her that she would keep an eye on Honor, and the school moved the girls into all the classes they could take together.

Honor hadn’t really wanted to take some of the classes that Truth had taken, but she ended up loving them all.

Truth had a penchant for sewing and after the class where they learned to sew and make food, Truth was even more hooked.

Since their grandma taught them to sew when they were younger, they already had a good grasp on it and Truth had loved it since then and fell in love even more.

Honor found that she was also good with a needle, but it wasn’t her calling in life like it was for Truth, but Honor would help Truth in any way she needed.

Honor once asked her mom if she could take dance, but her mom refused.

“I worry that someone will hit you and hurt you. Or that you will overdo it. You still need to recover and while the doctor says you can live life the way you want, I still want to make sure you are going to actually be okay. I can’t worry about you constantly.”
