Eventually his nickname dwindled down to Silver and then Grey.
He would hear them chant his name in the stands and he loved it.
Women threw themselves at him, but he didn’t want to lose his focus. Lose his edge.
So he never gave them the time of day. He wanted more than a quick fuck and right now? All they saw was a paycheck and he wasn’t about that.
He wanted more out of life. Out of a relationship and more out of himself.
So for a few years he fought in any fight he could sign up for and when he made it to the big leagues, he won his first championship.
It allowed him to finally have the life he wanted to live and he knew it was time to stop living out of the motel and find a place to live.
Not just any place though. One place in particular.
He remembered how much he loved the beach when he went with his parents.
Myrtle Beach.
He found a house there that he loved that had been empty for a few years that needed some renovations.
And a gym where he could practice still, as he still fought on the weekends and Declan had a few events ready for him, but it was slowing down.
He made the money he wanted to make and now it was time for real roots.
When he got to the town the first time, he sat in his house in silence.
The place was full of boxes and stuff from Declan. It was his first real house and he sat on the wood floors in the living room, just staring around him in awe.
He was grateful to Declan for taking a chance on a kid who hadn’t been given the opportunity to do more with his life.
And now, it was this. He loved it.
When the first time the newspaper came in from the small local newspaper in town, he was sitting on his couch with his coffee and almost spilled it on himself when he saw the picture of a woman that was all curves in a swimsuit.
She was stunning. With her blonde hair and a pair of sunglasses covering her eyes.
She looked familiar to him, but he didn’t know why.
But it didn’t matter to him. He knew that she was his.
He didn’t know who she was, but yet, he knew in his soul that she was meant for him.
He looked at the ad better, reading the actual writing, and saw that she was part owner of a small boutique that sold women’s clothes.
Her name was Bria Thomas and Gareth would do everything in his power to find her and claim her.
He wanted to get his affairs in order and then nothing would stand in his way.
He knew that the money he made fighting wouldn’t last forever, so he got a job as a bouncer on the weekdays and he would fight on weekends.
It would be the perfect way to get money and be able to see his girl.
Now he just had to get up the courage to speak to her.
He was planning on doing it in the morning, and came up with some kind of excuse to go to her boutique, but while he was on the second day of being a bouncer, she got attacked by a drunk.
He saw the tail end of it, and wanted to kick himself for not going outside sooner.
